Iran trained in Al Rayyan on Thursday as they look to bounce back from their heavy 6-2 defeat to England in the opening Group B match on Monday.

Captain Ehsan Hajsafi appeared animated in training, as Iran look to put that England performance behind them and focus on Friday’s match against Wales at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

Hajsafi spoke out earlier in the week about the protests in Iran and the team responded by refusing to sing their national anthem before the England match.

A Mehdi Taremi double provided some consolation but Carlos Quieroz’s side looked a shadow of the team that had previously collected a win and a draw from Uruguay and Senegal in September.

Goalkeeper Ali Beiranvand trained in a mask after suffering what Quieroz described as a “serious concussion” during the England defeat.
