Serbia has qualified for Euro 2024, their first European Championship finals as an independent nation, after a 2-2 draw with Bulgaria in their final Group G game. Serbia only needed a point to secure qualification, even if Montenegro beat already-qualified Hungary. Montenegro took the lead in Budapest but ultimately lost 3-1. Serbia initially took the lead in their match with a goal from Milos Veljkovic, but nerves set in after Montenegro equalized. Bulgaria fought back in the second half, with Georgi Rusev and Kiril Despodov scoring to put them ahead. However, news quickly came through that Hungary had taken the lead against Montenegro, securing Serbia’s qualification. Srdjan Babic then scored a late equalizer for Serbia, sealing their place in the finals. Hungary finished top of the group with 18 points, followed by Serbia with 14 points. Montenegro finished third with 11 points but cannot qualify for the playoffs. Bulgaria finished last with four points.
