  1. He got much better since the start of the season but him parrying most balls into his 6 yard box is still worrying and will sooner or later end badly. Hope he is working on that.

  2. Not gunna lie I had zero confidence in this guy. But he has won me around. He is decent and, although I miss De Gea, I'm glad we have him.
I still full expect some howlers from him due to his type of play but we got that with De Gea so there is nothing new there really.

  3. I'm still not confident in him, every shot we concede worries me. With that rocky start, he'll need at least half a year on this level for me to change my mind. Even the ballplaying is not convincing for me, most of his long range passes are awful just like David's were. Yeah, he can walk to the edge of the box and pass it to the defenders confidently, nothing else really.

  4. He’s a quality keeper, anyone who’s said otherwise is ignorant to his career so far. Barca’s academy to Ajax and then UCL final run with Inter. Strong mentality is a huge part of it too.

  5. I hated the way De Gea was treated by Utd when he left, I was wary when Onana joined, but after a dodgy few games, he has made the position his, he's a great keeper and he seems a bit eccentric(which I love) We need someone strong between the sticks, this man seems to be the right man.

  6. During this season, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, and Malacia have all been injured. That's everyone but Dalot and (maybe arguably) the ENTIRE first choice defense and a backup. United have been starting a stripped captain (Maguire), Poundland Martinez (Lindelöf, and that's not even a slam; that's how it is), Jonny Evans (okay), Amrabat (not a defender), and panic-loaned Sergio Reguilon, who then got injured.

And the media is blaming Onana, without recourse; the only stalwart.

That doesn't even mention the issue that Casemiro, who is supposed to cover that broken back line, has been miles off form.

According to TalkSport, though, it's Onana's fault.

Honestly, he's already very good; he's just not exactly what we'd hoped as of yet. We all knew he's a little crazy (as keepers should be and have to be), and we all knew he'd have an absolute howler in him (proven) because he's a bit mad, but this is a really, really good keeper. We're not seeing his best yet, but there are very, very good reasons for that.

He's doing a job right now, and that's fine, but Andre Onana will eventually unlock himself with proper personnel around him. It's comin'. Oh lawd, he comin'.

  7. Let's not get carried away, but yeah, after a tricky start he has notably improved. As with all new signings, you need to give them at least a season before judging though.

  8. I wasn’t on his back early on for the same reason I think it’s silly to make out he’s now great. Same applies to Maguire being lauded. We’ve played some pretty poor teams on our winning run. Let’s see how the next month goes.

  9. At Ajax Onana had a start up period as well. After that he was immense for us, being arguably the best keeper in the past 10 to 15 years for us easy.

  10. Onana is doing… OK.
He's got better as the season has gone on, and is now doing a decent job. He's making saves that I would expect a Premier League keeper to make.
But we're still not seeing anything that makes him special.
I'm sure that when we get a solid defence in place that manages to play more than two or three games together before another bunch of rotations is made, that his talents will become apparent.
At least Shaw, Lindelhof, Maguire and Wan Bissaka have a good relationship and were the principle back four that got us 3rd and 2nd place finishes.

Until the team has that relationship at the back, with the back five, (Certainly the Keeper and two CBs) we won't develope a level of understanding that is needed for the sort of more expansive play we want to be employing.

I still think we should have gone for Raya but we have Onana now and I hope he does become as good as ten Hag expects him to be.
The potential is certainly there, and considering the shock to the system he experienced with the initial step up to Premier League standards, he is now coping with it far better than other players who have joined from overseas with exciting stat-blocks on paper who haven't adapted anywhere near to what is needed to play in this league and carry the weight of that shirt!.

  11. The anti-United biased media couldn't wait to stick the knife into Onana, because that is the way they operate. They are too quick to heap criticism/praise onto a player. Moving to a Big Club like United takes time to bed in, particularly when Onana didn't have a consistent defensive setup in front of him.

  12. His shot stopping has definitely improved but his distribution even against Everton wasn't good at all which is the whole reason he was brought in!! the difference between him and DeGea though is that it doesn't seem like he crumbles when he misplaces a kick… it doesn't scare him off trying to do it again

  13. He's fortunate he is not British. If Maguire, McTomminay or Rashford had made the calamities he has made already then fans would be calling for him to go. It's good to see his resurgence, but let's not pretend we wouldn't be in top 4 and already qualified from our champions league group if wasn't for his repeated mistakes in both competitions.

  14. My only gripe with Onana is that he tends to bat the ball back into the danger area after making a save. Back in my day goalkeepers were expected to put the ball safe after making a save.

  15. and he's right to be as you will see over the season a couple of win against team you should be beating and you delusional fans crawl back out and what of the crit you lot of hypocrites gave to harry maguire ?
