Less than a year after Sergino Dest’s decision to represent the United States over the Netherlands, the USMNT lands another big commitment from Valencia teenager Yunus Musah, who chose the U.S. over England, Italy and Ghana. On the latest episode of Futbol Americas on ESPN+, Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez discuss whether the 18-year-old will be a starter and what position he will play best in for Gregg Berhalter’s team. Plus, the guys are joined by ESPN FC’s Jeff Carlisle, who breaks down how U.S. Soccer was able to get Musah on board after his progression through England’s youth ranks and how he fits into the plans ahead of the World Cup qualifying.

Wow this is becoming a super team
Ya guys need to mute your teams notifications lol
So you think they had to sell him on usmt? He realized he wasn't gonna get playing time with England or Italy, and Playing for the u.s. is better than Ghana
He chose the US "men's national team." Was the women's team an option?
Why is every video I watch with this host he's looking like a fool?
All these kids that end up picking usa is because they wouldn’t start elsewhere
It’s probably because they have a better chance to play and get called up.
I’m still waiting for one of the many hyped up USA players to actually perform for more than 5 games. The only hope they really have is dest and he’s a RB
Has anyone said they would refuse to play in the 2022 world cup on the graves of 6500 slaves in Qatar?
I mean… he probably wasn't going to get play time for Italy or England… but still stoked!
We seem to get the worst athletic people from latin america. Thank god for Europe and West Africa.
As a Mexican American the future looks bright for both of my teams. It’s going to be a competitive clash between the biggest rivals in the CONCACAF.
USA will dominate now we have fountain of youth players who are very top quality vs in 2017 and 2018 the talent is seriously good
Is 🇺🇸 paying all these players off???
IF United States gets a REAL dcent manager…. my god Reyna, Pulisic and all them will reach potential. My Mexico is good but theyre federation is absolute GARBAGE ! Imagine if the US didnt have pay to play…
In FM this dude became my club's (Deportivo La Coruña) best player in history, winning multiple CLs including a Treble. Hope he does just as well IRL
What happen to that julian green guy.
We aren’t winning bleep* with miazga at CB. Richards haven’t seen enough, but Aaron long is our best CB by some distance
The lavish bottom whitely cheat because sailor alternatively collect for a short forest. kindly, fine clutch
This guy went to my school. im actually so proud of him rn
Just another Freddy Adu and Christian Pulisic … a dud!
I’ll tell you where he isn’t playing. The olympics
Should have stayed with England 🇬🇧 there goes his career
I wouldn't go that fair saying give the title to the US in 2026 lol
Klinsman was telling the USSF that USMNT would never go anywhere without developing players in Europe. Berkhaulter must have been listening. I’m anxious to see what happens in the Gold Cup.
Your computer will get a [DING!] at… 6:48
If you're talking about getting playing time as well, picking the USMT was the better choice. The England squad is overloaded with young talent right now. The US is starting to build a strong batch of young talent and it's exciting.
US can have 1 million players in europe and dual nationality but they cant beat, Honduras, MX or Costa rica. None of this matters!!!!
So, this is what US Soccer has evolved to…a country of 330 million+ people rummaging through other countries' bargain bin and bringing in players that have zero ties to the USA because they can't produce any worthwhile homegrown talent. I thought only Ireland did that….well, strike that…to play for Ireland you at least have to have one Irish grandparent. Evidently, you are now qualified to play for the USA now if you spend a night at a Holiday Inn.
While yes this is great for the US team, acting as if he chose this team over the rest purely on team merit is a bit of a reach. He is a class player that should go on to do big things, but realistically he may not have gotten caps for countries such as England and Italy which probably played a large role in his decision
They should cancel Qatar 2022. Somebody should discuss the 6500 deaths of migrant workers and the labor abuses. If they play, soccer players will play on the graves of poor deceased immigrants. Despicable.
The US with their population are sitting on gold dust players of a pool, but only if they used the free market they claim to love they would have dominated the soccer World,
USMNT's future is looking pretty solid. Players from all the big leagues!
Great talent will florish for the USMT
its like choosing to play for la galaxy over man u or city. if you don't believe your good enough then US id a better choice. Also can I remind you of Foden, Greenwood and Sancho? Or even Saka. England fans take pride in representing their country and are baffled how people who apart from their birth have never stepped in the country can choose another. If he chose Ghana or Italy fine but really to chose the Americans you must only want to PR benefits.
So thats the route USMNT decided to go. Going around buying young people out. Much easier that restructuring the demented confederation structure and the non existent inclusion of the American populace in the football movement. The millionaire owners of the teams in MLS wont let anyone else in their golden sandbox, so since the issue is winning something once out every 4 years they just slapped a patch on it. Genial.
No surprise he choose USA, England has one of the best youth players right now after their system change and he knows he wont be given time, the same reason Sergino choose the USA because Netherlands rejcted him, even though both these players were raised in Europe only, and have zero connection to the USA, Yunus literally was born in the USA whilst his parents were on holiday.
Dont be surprised when we see a ton of other English players switch allegiance for game time over the few years, and visibility because England is too competitive, the same way France has been for the last 10 years
He is very silly
Just need a better coach
