Liverpool has a detailed transfer deal with André Trindade for Thiago Alcântara’s ideal successor.
In the context of Liverpool’s midfield reconstruction, the team achieved what most people had hoped for. However, there was a notable exception. In the pursuit of Fluminense’s standout player André Trindade, there was a strong connection, but ultimately, the move did not materialize. Fluminense was determined to retain this key player, primarily focused on winning the Copa Libertadores, a goal they have now accomplished.
Fluminense secured their first-ever Copa Libertadores trophy by defeating Boca Juniors in extra time last weekend. This victory could have marked a fairy-tale conclusion for André before a potential transfer to Europe in January. Liverpool is considering him as a top priority, Jürgen Klopp’s midfield overhaul is not yet complete. While Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have become key starters for Liverpool, concerns remain, particularly regarding Thiago Alcântara’s fitness.
Thiago, has faced another injury setback recently and is not expected to return to action until 2024. Moreover, he will be nearing the end of his contract, raising doubts about a possible extension. André remains the perfect candidate to succeed Thiago, and his agent, Carlos Leite, revealed a plan to keep him at Fluminense until the end of the Brazilian season.
Leite explained, “[Club president Mário Bittencourt] informed me that Fluminense had no intention of selling André this year. I discussed it with the player, and he agreed. We agreed that the transfer would only happen from January 2024 onwards.” While Thiago still possesses the quality to aid Liverpool in competing for the Premier League title, his recent injury record suggests the need for cover in his position, which is where André could be the ideal solution. Ryan Gravenberch is better suited to playing in an advanced role.
The Brazilian would offer valuable depth in the deeper playmaking position, where Thiago may need his playing time managed in the future. With Thiago’s contract situation, André could become his long-term successor and acclimate himself six months before the older player departs. André has demonstrated his ability to maintain possession, making him an ideal press-resistant midfielder.
The Brazil international, alongside compatriot Alisson, would be one of the final pieces in Liverpool’s rebuilding process, which has already seen the addition of Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo. However, Liverpool must maintain its leading position to secure this transfer, especially with European scouts eyeing emerging talents from Brazil after the Copa Libertadores final. Given past experiences, the Reds must do everything possible to prevent a potential hijacking of this transfer, as they were unable to secure Jude Bellingham’s transfer last season.

Hope Thiago leaves he's hardly ever fit and doesn't fit our style of play when he is. On big wages as well.
