Croatia’s Mateo Kovacic reluctantly gave some advice to his teammates on Wednesday suggesting they “don’t fight Lukaku.”
The midfielder spoke ahead of his side’s final Group F match against Belgium on Thursday and joked that his Croatia teammates can deal with Romelu Lukaku in their World Cup decider – so long as they don’t fight him.
The Belgium striker should return from injury to face Croatia in a match that sees Kovacic come up against his old Chelsea teammate.
Croatia need just a point at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium to qualify for the last 16, Belgium however have under-performed at the 2022 World and only a win will ensure progression to the knock-out stages.
Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic has said his team “should not fool ourselves” into thinking Belgium are a bad team.
