I don't get it. The criticism of Liverpool was they didn't invest in a squad when they were running City close in the league. So when Arsenal spend (and overspend, and not at the expense of other targets it seems) suddenly its a bad thing? But if Newcastle did the same and sign Rice for 105million, you just know the media would claim that Newcastle have gotten a deal, and vaulted over Arsenal in talent and ambition.
And if Chelsea had signed Rice at that deal, they would be criticized…

If signing Rice & Timber make Arsenal defensively more stable then it's a big plus. It means they would be so much stronger with Saliba having had one more year experience forming his partnerships with White, Gabriel, Ramsdale. The point is Arsenal for too long have neglected the defensive part of the game and blew their wod on attack minded players they didn't necessarily need at the time. Now we seem to be giving our full attention to the other side of the game.
Let's to be honest the reason Arsenal haven't won the League for 19 years is because they haven't been able to defend. Even their best defenders in that time were flimsy…Koscielny, Vermaelan, or cumbersome and overrated Mertesacker.
