Has he forgot the rules? I’m not even an Arsenal fan but it literally comes off the Everton player so it shouldn’t be offside 😂
He intentionally played at the ball, where it goes is irrelevant. The fact is he intentionally played the ball.
Hes playing with semantics saying a block isn't him internationally playing the ball he directed his foot intentionally into the path of the ball.
Dermot is talking tripe.
This is just a BS breakdown ngl, call it out for what it is. An incorrect decision, Dermot isn’t a ref anymore for a reason!
Sometimes I think referee forget the rules . If you look back during the 2018 World Cup game Korea vs Germany. Sule had a similar situation were he stuck his leg out and the ball came into a Korean player to score while he was in a offside position. VAR checked it and said it was a goal .
He defends every referring decision, no matter what. So this is a waste of time
I can see it both ways but if the letter of the law says its offside then it's offside. Question then is the rule and definition sufficient as it rewards the defender for making a sloppy interception whereas he should be trying to have more control of his action.
Not the ex referree backing the refs. Imagine my shcok
Terminology vs actual play… we need the rules to be made by people who've actually played the sport, not just people who write speeches
So what about the man city goal a few years back? Dont remember who it was but someone was standing offside by a literal mile, defender "plays the ball" with a deflection. Yet he was onside. I know rules chsnge, but stleast stick with them for more than 24 hours
Dermot didn't have words because he knew he was talking waffle. He intended to play the ball and played it, where it goes is irrelevant.
The PGMOL apologist is using flawed logic here. Beto intentionally goes for the ball, but the direction the ball goes isn't where he intended. That is different completely from a deflection, which implies there was no intent from the Everton player to interfere with the ball's path.
By his standard, every misplaced pass also falls into the same category, which is obviously ridiculous.
I don't understand how its not given, Gabriel isn't trying to pass forward
I'm the only person who can see that martinelli is offside when the ball is played through
What’s the point of doing this show? Ex referee is always going to back his mates…..
Is never offside !!!!! The defender never intended to pass the ball … this is crazy!!!!!! GABRIEL CLEARLY cuts to the other way , not in the direction of the striker , and the ball bounce.. Gabriel is trying to DRIBBLE!
Christ above, Gabriel was playing the ball to his right & not forward the deflection took it forward off THE Everton player!! How in the fk is that offside!?!
Correct decision as he's offside when the Arsenal player plays the pass which comes before the Everton interception.
Every week there is another video about a dodgy var decision 🚮 get it gone
The Everton player deliberately made an attempt that would influence the flight of the ball.
Scrap VAR, it has fucked the game
(Not an arsenal fan, just a football fan)
I look forward to a similar situation happening in a few weeks time but VAR will decide to give the goal.
The officials have no idea of the rules and change them every season to make them more ambiguous to cover up their mistakes.
Oh and to make sure you can’t call the officials out on it they’ve decided that will be worth a yellow card/ fine or even a ban.
Law 11: Offside A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately played* the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
*‘Deliberate play’ (excluding deliberate handball) is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of:
passing the ball to a team-mate;
gaining possession of the ball; or
clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it)
Clear as mud then. How can a player "have control of the ball" (I.e. be in possession of it) while also "gaining possession of the ball"?
Difference between intentionally playing the ball and blocking the ball, not sure how people navigate to Youtube while being so dumb to not know the differenvce
Yes
Absolute delusional bs, and he’s trynna make jokes
Correct me if I’m wrong, but disregarding whether Beto played the ball or not, i’m more concerned because of the bad camera angle, the VAR team have drawn the line from mykolenkos shoulder, not his foot that would logically be behind him, therefore playing eddie onside??? (because his leg’s bent)
I’m a villa fan and Liverpool had one ruled out against us for the same thing which I didn’t agree with, so if I understand this correctly it’s not about “deliberately playing the ball” it’s about where the player would ideally like it to go? So the wording of the rule needs to be changed to clarify it.
This show is completely pointless if they are just going to back the decision of the ref every time, regardless of whether it is wrong or right. Hes making a right tit out of himself
Not even a ref earning minimum wage and I’ve the knowledge to know that’s a goal these refs get paid however much and they can’t even get the right decision on the day and they take 5 mins to make the decision and it’s wrong, Honestly footballs dead scrap VAR , hilarious tbf when they make the wrong decision refs don’t even know the rules themselves and it’s so simple!🤣
What is this stupid "didn't intentionally" mean to play somebody on side rule? So if a player unintentionally deflects the ball onto his own net should the goal be ruled out? Or if he unintentionally fouls someone in the box should no penalty be given? The intent to affect play should be the key issue here, not the outcome of this intent.
Bottom line is, referees are ruining the game, and VAR is making it even worse. Football and the players should be the centre of attention, not these clowns.
Howard Webb better address this this coming week because this is once again another offside rule that goes against Arsenal for the wrong reasons. I really do try my hardest to see it from a fast-paced referee point of view, but this is a shocking decision once again played out by those who do not understand the rules. Really am starting to get pure hatred for referees these days. Gabriel had no intention to pass to Nketiah, it was going sideways to Saliba. It's not Nketiah's fault that it comes off Beto and deflects to him as he wasn't interfering with that play in that phase.
What gets me is that the height of the lines drawn vertically are completely arbitrary. If Nketiah's toe is pretty much on the blue line, in an almost vertical position, how is the red line and Nketiah's heal that much offside. Also the line for offside is taken from the Everton defenders shoulder when he has his knee bent and leg/foot behind him; it's near impossible that his foot isn't closer to the goal than his shoulder running that direction. All that being said, whether it is offside or not really comes down to whether it is interpreted if the ball was played intentionally. Just in case, I don't support either team.
Another bullshit var decision.
If he deliberately goes to block the ball ain’t that a deliberate action 🤷🏾♂️
This is such a stupid law in the game. What if they add this for own goals? A player deflects a ball into his own net, but didn't "deliberately" do so, which gave the attacking team an "unfair advantage" as it adds an extra player to the attacking team. Goal disallowed.
How stupid does that sound?
They should just make this rule simple. If opposition plays the ball backwards in any capacity. Deliberate or not so. The attacking player is NOT offside.
Football is about goals, and for the most part there has to be a mistake somewhere to have a goal scored. Rewarding the defensive team for poor play shouldn't be a thing.
