I'd prefer him as a CDM. Ticks a lot of boxes there for me. He is like Jorginho with more pace and defense plus he is stronger, taller and more confident driving into spaces than Jorginho. Perfect DM for me. With Havertz RCM and Kovacic LCM and Ampadu CDM, it would make a very good midfield.
Kanté is now injury prone will don’t know how many match is going to play next season and Lampard doesn’t trust jog and kova, if you have player like rice who can always play in midfield and in defense is a good option.. every one is going to have enough playing time
Watched a lot of RB Leipzig last season and wow Ampadu is a baller. I wish we had him at United. Chelsea got another real gem there. Could be perfect replacement for Kante. He will get Prem experience now at Sheffield United as well so really excited to see him again
