What’s Next For Dani Olmo? Manchester United? Chelsea? Barcelona? The ex-La Masia youth product has been rumoured to be looking for a move away from his current club Dinamo Zagreb. Where should the 21 year old move?

First, let’s look at Barcelona. Olmo arrived in FC Barcelona’s youth academy aged nine, from Catalan rivals Espanyol. This would seem the obvious first choice for Olmo as they can play all across the line and even in central midfield, opening the door for Barca to continue with their traditional 4-3-3, with Olmo on either flank or in central midfield.

Making Barcelona his next move would be beneficial for multiple reasons.

Firstly, Olmo already knows the tiki taka style ingrained in the club, so he would require little adaptation. Additionally, with both Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi managing their games, Olmo could get plenty of opportunities as a rotational option to stake a claim and his excellent work rate could see him gain favour with the pragmatic Valverde.

Heading over to the Premier League, we consider Frank Lampard’s Chelsea and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United. A lack of creativity in the Manchester United squad would make it a sound next move. Also, the two positions where Olmo has played his best football, on the right wing and at number 10, are the two positions in the team that need strengthening.

A move to Old Trafford would be great for both parties. It would give Olmo a real chance of getting further in the Europa League and even potentially winning the competition, whilst Olmo would bring that essential bit of creativity to the attacking line up without losing pace or pressing. Olmo’s preferred method of chance creation, from central spaces of through balls in behind, really suits Man Utd’s pacey forwards – the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Dan James, who are constantly looking to get in behind their opponents. However, whilst United have been linked to Olmo, they’ve also been linked to a number of other creative midfielders including James Maddison and Jack Grealish – so there’s no guarantee that the interest in Olmo is genuine.

Chelsea seem to be the only Premier League side with solid links to the Spaniard. Whilst Frank Lampard has done brilliantly to establish Tammy Abraham as Chelsea’s number nine, the wide spots are still up for grabs. Pedro and Willian’s Chelsea careers are coming to an end and neither Christian Pulisic or Callum Hudson-Odoi have nailed down a position.

The big question mark over Olmo is whether he can handle the step up to the Premier League in both physicality and quality. Whilst the youngster has performed well in Croatia, the league is ranked as the 19th best across Europe. Despite that, he has performed well in Europe, with involvement in nine goals across 16 appearances in the Europa League and Champions League, although these appearances aren’t weekly. This season, he has also been rested before or after Champions League games to ensure he is fresh.

Have your say in the comments. Where should Dani Olmo move?

  1. My Fortune-telling for this decade….
Although I know these have really low chances to happen

Man United rises suddenly under Ole
Liverpool worse their rivalry with United now for the race of Premier League and UCL
UCL now often goes to England
    Arsenal also rises under Arteta
Spurs go down with Mourinho fired in next 3 seasons
Chelsea becomes new academy for young talents and earning more
Guardiola flies to Barcelona leaving City in Trouble
    India rises up in AFC
England becomes the new superpower for football
Italy returns in dominance at UEFA
More world class players emerge from Brazil and Argentina
FIFA World Cup expands and more teams enter the path of glory

  2. I don’t think Man Utd is going to get anyone in this window. I’m prepared to be surprised but highly doubt it. Woodward has a history of not backing the managers so that’s not going to change any time soon

  3. Guys if u wanna see man u back at their best,
We all need to send, screenshot and send such vids to the united board,
We should convince ole to hire this guy

  4. Hudson odoi has nailed down that right wing for Chelsea.. he is more effective there… but we need another right winger and Thomas Lemar or Dani Olmo would be perfect.

  5. Right now a move to man united is good to no one, have you not seen how terrible they are, and United are not in the CL this year and lets face, they ain’t getting in next year either.

  6. Ceballos and Fornals both looked better for Spain than Olmo and they are pretty in the Premier League in their first year. Can't bring him in expecting him to play at top level in his first year.

  7. bruno to manchester !!!!!!!!!!!! WHO WOULD BE THE BEST NEXT SIGNING ??? VAN DE BEEK ? AND BOUBAKARY SOUMARE AND ZIYACH OR OLMO

  8. From what I’ve seen of Olmo he does like to move in to the half space a lot and likes to drop deep in to the midfield so I do not see him as a winger. He only drifts wide because he’s a la masia product and recognizes when he should go in to space and where to be in all phases of play. He is not suited for man united under OGS if man united. Saussolo would be a better move since they can play good football and he would reunite with a former la masia players in Marlon Santos.

  9. Olmo is more of a midfielder than a winger he likes to drift wide when there is space which is what he was taught in la masia just to put it simply. I think the best for him would be Ajax because under the current board at Barcelona and the current egos in the club I think we would run the risk of ruining another talent. Players like Todibo, Riqui Puig, Aleña, Collado, Abel Ruiz, Oriol Busquets, Wague, and Araujo are all top talents which need minutes in the first team. The starting line up week in week out are not carrying the badge with pride anymore they carry the names on their backs with pride and don’t care as much and look forward to their 3 day breaks that Valverde has been giving them after each game.

  10. Seeing how youngers doing well and exciting project with lot of young players chelsea can be idea place for dani. Hope dani comes to chelsea
