  1. We haven't seen Foden shine for England because he doesn't get played in midfield and Southgate's pragmatic approach stagnates Foden. Kane, Rashford, Saka, Grealish all have experience playing pragmatic defence first football. Foden has never had to play that way at club level.
Why play pragmatic football when out best players are attack minded?? Its like an athlete being great at sprinting so the coach has them doing the 5000m. Southgate would have had Bolt doing the 5000m ffs.
If Argentina can win a world cup with Otamendi and Romero, then England should be able to win the Euro's with Stones and Guehi.

  2. England control the game better with Henderson, but score more goals with Foden. So what does Southgate want, high possession numbers or more goals than opponents?

  3. If you play rice in the 6 and bellingham and foden either side is very attacking and couldn’t be used in all games but with that level of technical quality you can dominate the ball. You can also get stones to step into the midfield like with city in possession. Wouldn’t work in all games but given that england are better than most sides they can afford to have this level of attacking intent. Grealish and saka on the wings can come inside as well to help control… its easy to say too attacking but if you technical players who can beat a man, good touch and passing they can retain possession which ultimately gives you more control and solidity

  4. I believe that a manager's personality is reflected by their team. Southgate's personality is as dull as ditch water. Roberto De Zerbi is a fireball of emotion and Brighton are a hugely exciting team to watch. Make De Zerbi England manager and he'll set the world on fire.

  5. when non-city fans talk about foden it’s so frustrating. when he is on the pitch in an attacking midfield area he is phenomenal. he has barely gotten a chance for england in that position. just look at foden in the champions league final, and against newcastle. one of the best on the half turn in the world

  6. Foden hit the post against Croatia at the Euro's and was our best attacker against Scotland. Had that goal against Croatia gone in, you wouldn't have said he never took his chance.

Kalvin Phillips was great against Scotland. Rice needs him otherwise teams will swarm him and expose us. Not sure why that needs to be explained. Henderson was key to letting Bellingham play freely at the world cup. Foden cant defend. Admittedly Bellingham is better at defending than Foden, but Jude is proving he is a real world beater for club and country.

Foden had a great game in the UCL final, but was not clutch. That is the important matter. Say we go 2 down to a team and have a half left, maybe then throw Foden and Bellingham on together behind Kane predominantly to create for Kane and the 2 wing forwards.

Maddison has not had a good game for England. Maybe give him a few more chances in the nation league but ultimately he is 3rd choice for that area, at best.

  7. But bellingham would not replace anyone at city and would play similar minutes to foden, they would both be rotational. Last season foden didn’t play much. The season before that he played much more and was incredible. They’re on the same level of talent but bellingham is more inform right now despite foden starting the season very well too.

  8. Rice can hold the ball better than Jude, Jude can carry the ball better than rice and foden is the attacking/ creative product. They can all create and attack to a level so this midfield might be the best in the world rn. This is the perfect midfield for England.

  9. Surely the squad is ramsdale, stones, Tomori, walker/trent playing that inverted role, tripper or shaw playing the back three type role, rice, Bellingham, Maddison, Saka, rashford, Kane ( if kane drops deep you have a runner in rashford who can also rotate into that 9 position)
