Latest reports from the Manchester City camp suggest that the club have accepted Al-Nassr’s offer for defender Aymeric Laporte. Laporte, who has suffered a serious drop in playing time, has reportedly been considering leaving the club for some time. Despite the interest of many clubs, City have not received any official offer for Laporte so far. The French stopper continued to train with the club while waiting for a possible move.

Laporte, a 29-year-old stopper, played for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola until the 2022/23 season. However, after the signing of Manuel Akanji, Laporte found himself with less consistent starting opportunities. Another factor affecting his position in the team was the rise of Nathan Aké at the time. After Pep realised that John Stones was playing as a defensive midfielder and changed the system to allow three defenders, Laporte became one of Pep’s least preferred options. City deployed Akanji, Dias and Aké as the preferred back line, sometimes including Walker. Laporte made only 12 Premier League appearances last season.

City recently signed Josko Gvardiol from world-famous Leipzig. It is rumoured that Gvardiol was brought by City to replace Laporte, who is expected to leave this summer. Gvardiol’s quality is expected to significantly bolster City’s defence, making it even stronger than before. Therefore, with the addition of another stopper, Laporte’s position in the team seems to be further reduced.

Although the deal is not yet finalised, it seems highly likely that Laporte will move to Al-Nassr. According to The Sun, Laporte and his agent will meet with Al-Nassr representatives in the coming days to finalise the terms. If Laporte signs with them, Al-Nassr will add another big and productive star to their roster.

Al-Nassr are having an impressive transfer window this summer and have already brought in some big names. Players like Sadio Mané, Marcelo Brozović and Seko Fofana joined the club from Europe this summer. In addition, with the presence of arguably the best player ever, Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr are reaching new heights. They recently won the Arab Champions Cup for the first time in their history.

Bringing in a player like Laporte would be a major coup for Al-Nassr. Although he hasn’t started regularly for City recently, there is no doubting his quality. Playing alongside the best and witnessing the development of the Saudi Pro League will also be an exciting experience for Laporte.
