Former Liverpool captain and current England international Jordan Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on enormous wages in July 2023.

Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia has been criticised due to his prior support for the LGBT community, but in a recent interview, he claimed money wasn’t the reason for his move to the KSA, that his presence there was a positive, and even cast doubt on human rights abuses in both Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

In this video, HITC Sevens analyses Henderson’s often laughable claims, his dishonesty, stupidity, and warped view of himself and the world.

  1. Jordan Henderson, throughout literally his entire career: "Gay people deserve rights!"
Also Jordan Henderson, now he's playing in Saudi Arabia: "Well… I mean… that's just my opinion, if my employers think otherwise, who am I to disagree?"

  2. I’m Croatian and you westeners are the hypocrites. Stop policing the world and tell everybody how they have to live. Hopefully the Saudi League replaces the PL as the best league in the world in a couple of years.

  3. As a queer football fan, I do feel abandoned by him. He went from vocally supporting my community to insinuating that condemning systematic executions of gay people is 'culturally insensitive'. He's a two-faced, greedy snake who sold his soul to as close to the devil as you can get in this world. I wish he would just say, "I think money is more important than human rights", instead of this bs. Piss off, Jordan!

  4. Let’s be honest here: the same people calling out Hendo would be on the first flight over there if they got offered £100m-a-year for 5 years.

Hell, I’d even go there for £20m-a-year if it was offered to me.

  5. Jordan Henderson is getting stick because he supported the lgbtq group in the first place.

Henderson has no obligation to speak for that 'community' and if he chose to do it in the past, then whatever. His decision. Fact that he's now chasing the money, you're all jumping on his back. When Ruben neves leaves the best league in the world in his prime and claims that the Saudi league will be as competitive as any other in a few years, nobody jumps on him

You used ighalo as an example of utmost honesty, making it sound like every player admits they've gone for the money. Ighalo is the exclusion and not the norm.

We all know 99% of players, including Henderson have gone for the money. We all know players are muppets who dig themselves a hole once they open their mouths.

Let the fella chase the money. Most of your viewers would to my friend. I know you like to think of yourself as a Saint but calm down

  6. This situation basically showed nobody should ever stand up for lgbt again. If he never bothered to he wouldn’t be getting any backlash

  7. Unlike many, I don’t have any issues with players moving to Saudi for the money. Are they already ridiculously rich? Sure. But if they want to spend what is an already short career moving for money, then that’s their decision.

What irks me is somebody not only sacrificing his beliefs for a paycheque, but denying that’s what he’s done. When some of the things he supports are literally illegal in Saudi, how can you claim that money isn’t the reason for the move?

Would he have chosen them over a Premier League team if both offered the same wage? Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t believe for a second that he would have

  8. If Jordan could stare directly into our eyes and lie without batting an eyelid that he 'didn't do it for the money', what other heinous lies he's hiding from us…?

Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies
Tell me lies, tell me tell me lies

  9. I don‘t have a problem with players playing in Saudi Arabia. My Problems are if they aren‘t honest that they go there for the money and if they go there when they‘re like 21-25 Years old.

  10. Tbf though Brits ending up in foreign lands for money while claiming their there to actually make great contribution to civilization is centuries long tradition. Just look up as to which great nation actually aided the Wahhabis to get in power over the region and for what purpose.

  11. "Jordan Henderson looks up Ryhad's first gay bar he helped inaugurate" I was drinking tea and literally spilled some onto my computer while laughing.

  12. I don’t like Alfie as a person but I have to admit, he does make some very good videos … this however is not one of those times. This video is bad

  13. Showing solidarity, the guy just didn’t want to be hassled. If he didn’t wear the msmbc laces he would be on a harassed by the media.

  14. In the year 2034 – my dear Alfie, i fear you will be making videos about how football has made rapid strides in the Middle-East – and how sports in general is helping revive a region torn by centuries of strife.

  15. It just shows footballers probably don’t really believe in the causes they are purported to.

I suspect it’s all PR though they have the sense to go along with it because if they didn’t it would cause them a lot more problems.

Can you imagine the backlash if a footballer in the west came out and said they didn’t support lgbt or blm etc?

Different cultures have different beliefs, they don’t have the same values as we do in the west. Is it really our place to dictate to them how to live their lives? They could hold the mirror up to us and show us that we have undesirable traits.

It’s easy to criticise people from afar but no one really knows what they would do unless they were in that situation. Though I do take the the point about him being a hypocrite though I don’t really believe he like many footballers truly support these causes.
