  1. The real reason they're complaining is because time wasting is so effective. Actually having to play for 90 mins is terrifying for teams like Arsenal etc because they use it as a crutch when they're ahead

  2. Just do the same thing that they do in rugby!!! All teams have atleast 25 players registered, so use all of the squad!!!

  3. The Managers and players only have themselves to blame and more so the Managers for letting their players get away with it, if they want to fake injury that's up to them, grown men crying about having to play 90 minutes for their wages is unbelievable.

  4. actually on FIFA's side here. Although they're probably doing this for commercial reasons, I agree with mitigating time wasting. The tactics are cowardly & unsportsmanlike

  5. Premier league players on average make 100 times what the average person makes a year in the UK. And they only really work once or twice a week. Cry me a damn river. This wouldn't be happening if they didn't do silly time wasting tactics & remained sportsmanly at all times.

  6. One way to get the actual 90 mins is to use a system like they do in the NBA where they count down the time. Countdown pauses when ball goes out of play and starts again when the ball is in play. Can do the same when a goal is scored, pause when it crosses the line and start when the ball is kicked off again or trigger when the whistle is blown for fouls etc. Its an option.

  7. Time wastage is a part of strategy in the game. Nothing stirs up emotions like a team chasing the game and their opponents applying every dark art known to football just to frustrate them. It's part of why we love the game.

  8. I agree with the timewasting rule that they apply. That way you stop the players from crawling around on the ground pretending that they lost a leg. I think is good but the FIFA should also watch for the unneccesary competitions to remove. Nations League for example is something that we don't need. The League One competition (Caraboa cup) in England is also a unneccesary competition. United's last season is proof that they had to many games to play.

  9. Next there will be 2 relief breaks 5-10 mins to sell Adverts. They will have 90 mins of game time up from 55 but give the player a break.

  10. This is nonsense from Varane. Time wasting is getting out of hand, average ball-in-play game times was around 55 minutes which isn't far off being half the time of a 90 minute match. It's ridiculous, some teams are taking advantage using "game management" to run down the clock via tactical substitutions (players slow to get off) or feigned mini injuries to reduce the time or just booting the ball out of play and the ball boys are slow to give the ball back. In terms of fatigue etc PL clubs should have squads big enough to handle an extra 10-15 mins of stoppage time and professional footballers being paid multiple millions should be able to play a full 90 minutes, not 55 minutes. This will probably lead to more rotation, more subs, which is ultimately better for squad players and youngsters looking to get experience, and more football (and more goals) which is better for spectators. Imagine paying £100+ for a ticket and getting to see the ball in play for 55 minutes FFS?

  11. Loved it in the World Cup and i will love it in the Prem.
50 minutes average ball in play is not good enough.
Fans pay to be entertained, not watch players time wasting and rolling around on the floor.
Either used this method are have a timer that stops every time the balls goes out of play, as in most sports.

No sure how ten Hag comes to the conclusion "commecrcial interests" are behing this decision. Surely with more minutes being played there's lest time for commercials?

  12. …then we're going to see a lot of players sent off for accumulating two easy yellow cards. He mention things will even themselves out but even as it is time wasting will even itself out. Football has been great as it is, if it ain't broke don't try to fix it

  13. I can understand the worry about players being pushed to the limit. But if that's the case, teams can eliviate this by either reducing time wasting or rotating more young players in resting senior players more

  14. Football players health… These guys are cared for better than any other profession and paid a phenomenal amount of money. Play the game, by the rules, and there would be no need for these rules. I hope these players hear the public's opinion.

  15. I wonder if maybe United are complaining about this because they don't have a big enough squad to rotate and spread the minutes so this isn't an issue? Nah, couldn't be.

  16. If you waste time it gets added on, fairly simple. Football is for fans and fans enjoying watching football not time wasting. Its about time this happened.

  17. All this does is make more time wasting in the games. If the games were shorter, 80 minutes they would be more intense. Footballers are stretched to the limit as it is. Its just about time-on screen advertising.
