West Ham have reached an agreement to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, with a reported £30 million offer being accepted for the centre back.
The England international has had some serious ups and downs since leaving Leicester to join Manchester United. With David Moyes interested in reinvesting the money from Declan Rice’s big money move to Arsenal, could this be the right move for Maguire to reset his career?

what i can agree is if west ham play low block 3-4-3 w maguire and jwp…they shd have a great team to compete for 5-8 place, and this is what leicester plays in maguires final season with maddison (fk specialist) playing in the middle
but everyone now knows maguire’s weakness and they will target him whenever they play…i also dun think they will allow him to have time see thru the pitch before putting a long ball, teams will press and swamp him

I’m calling bullshit on that being a de Gea mistake in any way. The ball was perfectly weighted for Maguire to turn. You’ve suggested that with more zip on the ball Maguire could touch and turn, but the ball de Gea played is good enough for him to turn without having to touch the ball.
As someone who has paid a lot of attention to united’s patterns for playing out from the back under ETH, I’ve seen the exact pattern Maguire attempted many times last season; ball from de gea to the CB who plays it first time to their full back. Hoing straight to the full back from the keeper doesn’t move the opposition players in a way that allows you to get out of the defensive third. The reason this is relevant is because Maguire was always planning to pass to AWB even before de gea played the pass. He didn’t have the presence of mind to adjust from the “default setting” because he had no awareness of what’s around him.
Two things are important to note. Firstly, the player that got the ball off Maguire started pressing him in the passing line of Maguire and Wan Bissaka. Secondly, he never reached Maguire; it was Maguire that passed the ball to him. If Maguire had been aware of his presence at any time, he would have never attempted the pass. Therefore you can’t even claim that the ball getting to Maguire too late affected the quality of his pass; the pass he attempted was never on at any point. And given that he was never closed down, the claim that the pass was too soft is a reach; if his only option was to turn with the ball, then he had the perfect pass to do so whilst having control of the ball. Even if de Gea had passed it harder, he was always planning to go first time to AWB.
An actual elite ball playing CB would be able to discern what was best for that specific situation; many noted that Lisandro in that exact same scenarion got out of it bery comfortably. Maguire however is not that which is why he was thinking on default.

You can say it not his fault but as a defender you constantly have to scan inorder to predict the passes or anything that would occur. I do believe he will be amazing for west ham but the error will still happen.
