ESPN’s Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens (The Gab & Juls Show) analyse the World Cup final between Argentina and France, one of the most dramatic last acts in history. They discuss how Lionel Scaloni won the tactical battle over Didier Deschamps, refereeing decisions and what this world title means to Argentina and Lionel Messi.

Juls got to give it to him to talk after that match and the heartbreak
Huge credit to Scaloni for his initial setup. Totally outmanoeuvred France. Very brave too, it sometimes looked like a 2-2-6. As predicted, Di Maria was key.
France's depth is what saved them from getting shut out. As the ARG players grew tired towards the 70th min, FRA's top tier bench started taking over the match.
Tired legs, tired minds, mistakes started to happen, leading to the PK and France's second goal as well. Argentina doesn't have the bench to counter that, and Scaloni refrained from making substitutions until extra time, other than the (likely planned) Di Maria sub for Acuna.
The criticism for Randal Kolo Muani at the end was undue. It was a fine strike, just an even better save. He's been one of the revelations of the tournament for me. He barely had any minutes with France before the WC started, scored immediately when he was subbed on against Morocco, got the PK in the world cup final, almost scored another himself, and converted his shootout PK as well. I'm not sure how long Eintracht Frankfurt will be able to keep him!
THE FUKEN GOAT MESSI THE ONLY GOAT MESSI MESSI MESSI 🐐
I agree with the Acua instead of parades
No mention of Upamecano’s handball in the lead up to the Montiel penalty ? Cool
A legitimate organisation that is trying to help construction workers in Qatar is… Equidem
……………. ………… …….. …..
Football fans should try and help the mistreated workers who built the stadiums and hotels.
Jules is blinking like he is holding his tears
Julien is such a sore loser. Why isn't he saying anything about Upamecano's penalty on MacAllister? If the ref had given that the score would have been 3-0 and we wouldn't be discussing this game at all.
Lo lamento por el desarraigado de Mbappé y sus paisanos africanos. No se los veía tristes al final del partido.
Told you guys, this is Messi’s World Cup 😀what a joy for team Argentina 🙏🏽🇦🇷🇯🇲
I kinda feel envious of everyone who was neutral in this game, because you had the time of your life, I suffered this game a lot…In a couple of days Ill watch it again and Im sure I will enjoy it.. VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!!
Both players were shoulder to shoulder…So, it’s a penalty but it’s not a red card..
The owners of Qatar bought PSG and then the right to host a World Cup. After a lot of money, thousands of lives lost and several refereeing errors, the final of the tournament is decided between two selections whose main players "coincidentally" belong to… PSG.
Five (5) stolen penalties for Argentina, almost all when the game was still tied (Saudi Arabia, Poland, Netherlands, Croatia and France). Lionel Messi, the FIFA protégé, scored 4 goals from penalties, all of them badly kicked, and 3 goals unmarked. When Neymar or Vini Jr. they start to dribble, then they are fouled. When the test-tube baby Messi starts scratching on the ball with his short legs, no one dares to touch the figurine. He put his hand on the ball, Maradona style, but did not receive a yellow card. He detracted from Weghorst and van Gaal, showing how false his reputation as "humble" is (they confuse a lack of personality with humility).
Another coincidence: Modric was a tiger against Brazil and a little bunny against Argentina. He entered the field just to ask for an autograph. Humiliating. But then he returned to play well against Morocco.
That cup felt like match wrestling. FIFA is as fake as WWE.
Everybody neutral here would have enjoyed the finals. But I , rooting for Argentina almost had a heart attack. De Maria is truly underrated and the moment I saw him there, I knew he would weave that magic with Messi. Anyway it turned out all well when ultimately we got the cup thanks to coach Scaloni!!!
Credit to scaloni and deschamps
There is not one journalist speaking about the HANDBALL by a france player in the play before Mbappe's last penalty of extra time. That penalty should've never happen. Nice try, fifa.
The BEST scaloni, a team that does not have many names and knew how to put together a great selection.
Yes it was humiliating for Giroud. I get the strategy to sub with 12 minutes left in the first half. Two possibilities: maybe nick a goal before half time and at the. very least, establish a better rhythm so that you can start the 2nd half firing on all cylinders rather than wasting 12 minutes before implementing the new lineup.
Di Maria
Strange that nobody ever mentions penalty shootout and the tactics around it.
Gonzalo Montiel has shot a lot of penalties for River Plate. Has never missed. Leandro Paredes has now shot 9 penalties. Never missed. Paulo Dybala has shot 26 penalties and scored 22. Those guys have been under pressure in similar situations many times. All ARG guys were regular penalty takers. Was it a coincidence that Paredes, Dybala and Montiel came in at the end? Nope.
What France had? They walked young, inexperienced guys to the gallows. In the biggest event in the world. Guys that haven't shot penalties before. You saw it from their face that they were scared shitless. Giroud is a good taker, Griezmann not so good but at least those guys have tons of experience. They were already substituted.
There was a HUGE advantage for Argentina and on top of that Emiliano Martinez who is a known penalty shootout goalie.
If you follow football a bit deeper you'd known that the game was over before the shootout.
Jules your heart will continue to be broken. As Long as Messi the GOAT keeps playing, mbappe will always fall behind Messi. Messi the greatest footballer in ball history of football.
