Josko Gvardiol is among the highest-rated young centre-backs in world football, so treble-winning Manchester City would be interested in signing him. But he plays in the same position as Nathan Ake.

JJ Bull explains just how good Gvardiol is, and how Pep Guardiola will likely use the young Croatian international.

  1. Of course, Pep knows what will they play but we do not. Will have fun when we see the competition copying previous season's City but they will play something different from Sunday.

  2. Hear me out. This allows rodri more rest. Stones will be able to just play CDM sometimes and Gvardiol can fill the stones roll. It’ll be 2 CBs at CDM but Pep could make it work.

  3. It's either they get a KDB and Kovacic back up, which will have B.Silva as the main RW, with a Palmer, as Foden and Grealish battle the LW, with Haaland and Alvarez as the no.9's, or (I doubt, with Bernado wanting to be a starter) B.Silva is KDB competition in the right no.8, and they get a RW, to rotate with Palmer/Foden on the RW, or have Foden/Palmer play on either wing behind Grealish, and (x) RW, Alvarez and Haaland as CF, and B.Silva and KDB as full time right no.8 options, I'll be interested to see if Man City buy another RW, and how the wing+half-space no.8 options will be

  4. With the defensive and progressive passing boost gvardiol provides I think Guardiola is planning to integrate alvarez into more games rather than keep him as a direct sub for haaland

  5. Gvardiol playing LB shouldn't have skewed your data. An institution such as yourselves should be able to filter data based on where he was playing on the pitch.

  6. Weve needed Josko since Ben Mendy got dragged away in handcuffs. Weve spent the past couple seasons papering over the cracks playing mid fielders outta position. Weve needed Josko for years we needed him last summer when we tried to get Cucurella. We needed Josko when we were forced by circumstance to play Zinchenko at left. With Mendys money off the books this is the right move. Josko got massive potential sky is the limit honestly. Still need a replacement for Mahrez but there's time enough left in the window once we move Laporte and Kevin still has another year or two left in the tank.

  7. WRONG – He's not the WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE DEFENDER. Manchester City's transfer team pulled a blinder and got Gvardiol for £77.6mill. Less than Harry Mguire who at £80mill in 2019 or £97mill in yodays money, you can add Van Dyke to that when you allow for inflation.
Manchester City have sold +£75mill in academy players and Mahrez for £30mill. We haven't spent any transfer funds yet in buying Kovacic and Gvardiol. Why not talk about these +'ve's and invent lies about the Champions of England and Europe ??

  8. He’s actually not the most expensive defender lol now I question the credibility of what you’re saying😂 and VVD hasn’t been the best defender in the world for a year now since his injury 🤦‍♂️ THIS guy 😂😂😂

  9. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭, captaining foden in your fpl team is suicidal

  10. I'm sorry, not that it makes a lotttt of difference but can he is still cheaper than Maguire? by only a bit but even so, what's with the "most expensive defender" agenda… feel free to correct me 🙂

  11. As a Bilbao fan I have to tell you I dont think Nico is going anywhere , his brother is a huge influence on him and Inaki has spent his whole career in Bilbao. Great young prospect but not going to Aston, not to city …..lehoia leial

  12. He’s not the most expensive defender thats still Maguire.. unless you don’t count Maguire as a defender which is plausible

  13. Did he say "VVD is probably the best CB in the world"? Sorry, did we go back to 2020 when he was actually a capable defender? 😂

  14. Pep realized solid Defence can win him more UCL. Stones is going to play as box to box cdm along with Rodri and philips. While Gvardiol will cover both left side of Cb and LB position. Long season and City will push for all four prizes, so they need solid backups at the defence. That's why pep brought him in his super talented squad.

  15. He will be the most expensive defender. Stop justifying city just because they're good. Whatever they do will have a massive asterisk and we all know why.
