There has been much news and speculation regarding the apparent rift between Hammers manger David Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten. However, yesterdays reports suggest that both men were in attendance as Arsenal took on Monaco in a pre-season friendly. The reason for their visit was to scout French international Youssouf Fofana ahead of a potential transfer.

  1. Jordan Miles did scout Soucek but it was under the instruction of Moyes who wanted certain qualities- running being one of them, covering ground. Something Soucek regularly tops premier league player tables in.

  2. I would imagine it was more a case of ‘we’re out of time. Let’s go watch Fofana’. I agree with everything you’ve said Gonzo. Back the manager. Back Steidten. Back then both. And the argument that it took Paqueta time to bed in is off target as well. For sure he had to figure out the tempo of the league, but his difficulty in finding his feet had to do more with being played out of position. Once Moyes watched him at the WC and had his AHA moment, it was mostly smooth sailing for Lucas.

  3. Moyes is just as culpable.Sullivan does not pick the team and any one who is trying to relinquish any blame on Moyes should keep their I’ll informed diatribe to themselves.

  4. "David Moyes deserves better" – actually he got better last season when he wasnt sacked by sullivan and you kept saying "he didnt deserve better and how well sullivan was treating him and how loyal sully was being?" wow short memories. Now youre saying he deserves better? Dont get it! Fact: he was treated ridicuously leniently last season when people like me and you wanted him gone and 10 other managers lost their jobs for far less. Gonzo, he got "better "then. Why does he deserve better this season than last season? I dont get your thought process here really just dont get it!!!

  5. If I was the manager and the one who’ll get sacked if the team doesn’t perform, you bet your life I’d want my way on transfers. As for who is leaking and what they are leaking – have you never heard of the press making things up?

  6. It seems that none of Moyes' targets want to come to us so it makes sense he would now be looking at alternatives, regardless of who identified them. Fofana would be great, but would he want to come? We certainly already have a large group of French speakers who would welcome him so you never know? Add JWP, Zakaria and Balogun and we're back in the game!

  7. What's your take on Vanessa Gold coming in as joint Chairman Gonzo? She made a very emotional announcement to go with her appointment – do you think that means all the probate issues surrounding her father's estate have been resolved?

  8. Unfortunately I don’t think for one moment any of our scouting team attended the arse Monaco match. That would be to professional. I believe the Fofana talk is only fan wishful thinking. It’s way above Moyes & Sullivan imagination

  9. Another thought. Why on earth didn’t Sullivan say at the end of last season, Moyes you can stay on with one stipulation. And that is we will appoint a new Director of Football tasked with bringing in you he exciting talent. If your OK with that great. If not then we understand and go our separate ways.
That would have been problem solved

  10. The problem with going for young players is that the deals are easier to hjack. Young players and their agents can be turned by money and we are not going to pay over the odds for players.

The best situation is for it to go through below the radar. If we hear about it before it is done other clubs may step in. Ajax and Dortmund for example, even Newcastle, who do not want to spend big,.
