Ten Hag has a right back dilemma. He has two options to start in the position, yet we all still identify the position as one we could improve. We currently have the choice between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, two players that have seen their involvement in United teams stagnate at various points in their United careers. Ten Hag has rotated between the two right backs so far since joining United, resurrecting Wan-Bissaka and unlocking Dalot in his full-back oriented system. For now, it is worth a look at the two players so that we can identify who might be our best option to start in the position week in week out.

  1. You definitely need both. Against lower teams dalot will be good as the extra attacker. Against City, Arsenal, Liverpool etc get AWB against Grealish, Martinelli & Gakpo.

  2. The thing is dalot is a very average defender and although he has the making of good player he doesnt put it together. His offensive game is like a 18 years old, hit and miss. dalot can play when the opposition has average left winger/left back/left midfielder.

  3. In Dalot and Wan Bissaka we have completely complementary Ying and yang to cover most requirements as defensive fullback options, and both are young, I'd say they can keep improving as a tag team, pushing each other to improve while giving enough time to each other away from games to work and be fatigue free.

  4. AWB still going forward offers very little quality. Where he has improved is he does look more confident and capable in possession from the back but final 3rd he's still pretty non existent. Dalot I feel has a high ceiling in an attacking sense even if he is behind AWB in terms of defensive solidity and handling wingers 1on1. Dalot for me still is my main pick and utilise AWB in games that ask for him to lock someone down.

  5. Dalot except when we play against Grealish, Martinelli and Son. Their pace and 1v1 skills fits Awb better.

Awb has become really overrated defensively. His position awareness is actually really really bad. He is usually caught out of position sleeping.

Also I have a memory if Awb often playing the opposition Onside.

Awb is one of the only pro footballing fullbacks I’ve ever seen who is playing a “inward back” pass (we call it that in Sweden, a pass from fullback to centerback basically a thru ball for opposition team) as soon as he is under pressure. I have no idea why he does that. As a 12 yo I remember being told to never make that pass ever again.

It’s like Awb brain malfunction at random times. I do not trust him whatsoever.

  6. Dalot is better but it drives me nuts how people will completely flip and underrate the other when they don't play for a week, both are good and different which is what we should aim in every position tbh

  7. AWB is 1st choice for me
The manager has done well to help him find form and will help hin develop further.
One of the best 1 on 1 and at the end of the day that is what a defender is there to do.

  8. It's not even a debate, Dalot is the better RB overall for us. Even Eth knows that, he's just bidding his time.
Our rivals have technically competent RB, Trent who's sh*t at 1v1 is still the RB. The passes Dalot sees , AWB doesn't or even if he does, he can't make them

  9. I want both Dalot is better overall but AWB is hands down best man to man defender in the world! Surely we need both these lads in our squad

  10. This might be a little left field (though I should say right field in this instance), but I would like to see both of them playing together, with AWB as the RB and Dalot playing in a dual defensive midfield pivot alongside Casemiro.
It might sound crazy, but hey I'm sitting on my sofa in Manchester, so I can suggest crazy shit👍👍😉😉

  11. I think it’s quite a nice problem to have, neither Dalot (with his injury record) nor Wan Bissaka (with his playstyle) are safe bets to play 50+ games next season. If we only had one of them, we’d be asking for a player like the other as depth.

  12. I think it’s interesting that we were quite heavily linked with a number of right backs a couple of months ago, especially Frimpong. But those rumours quickly disappeared as we’ve headed into the window. Don’t know about anyone else but that tells me that Ten Hag is pretty confident that Wan Bissaka and/or Dalot can make it to that level. Will be interesting to see what happens
