Kristensen only joined the Whites last summer but could leave Elland Road this summer after Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
The towering full-back made 30 appearances across all competitions for the Whites last season, chipping in with three goals and an assist.
Sky reports that Roma are making significant progress in their quest to sign the 25-year-old who has approved the move to Stadio Olimpico.
The Denmark international is keen to make the switch, and all that remains is for the Serie A giants to find common grounds with Leeds, who are powerless to stop his departure.
Roma are expected to negotiate an initial loan deal. However, it remains to be seen if a buy option or obligation will be added as part of the transfer agreement.
Leeds are bound to lose several top players following their descent to the English second tier, and Kristensen’s impending departure will open the floodgates.
Roma are currently the most active Italian side in the transfer market, as the Giallorossi are determined to strengthen their squad significantly following last season’s disappointment.
Jose Mourinho’s side reached the Europa League final but were thwarted by the record holders Sevilla. They also missed out on Champions League qualification, finishing 6th in the Serie A rankings.
Roma are out to back Mourinho in the transfer market, and Kristensen will add depth and quality to the defence. He will replace Rick Karsdorp, who is expected to leave the club this summer after falling out with Mourinho.
Kristensen was reportedly a target for Roma during his time at RB Salzburg, but the Austrian club’s demands were too high back then.
The Giallorossi have now been presented with a second chance to land their long-term target and are edging closer to finalising a deal.
Roma have also reached an agreement with Leeds to sign Diego Llorente on a permanent deal, while Evan Ndicka and Houssem Aouar have joined the Giallorossi.
