Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips speaks out in response to the last seasons comments from Pep Guardiola that Phillips is in, “no condition to play”. The claims were that Kalvin Phillips returned to Man City overweight.
The Man City player, Phillips was speaking with BBC Radio 5 Live prior to his documentary release and also went on to discuss his approach to next season at Manchester City.
Kalvin Phillips had very little game time in a Manchester City shirt last season and suggests he aims to rectify that next season.

We know how good Phillips can be. He should get back to training early and make sure his attitude is right. Good pre season and he has a chance. Gomes is a utility sub and is a useful player off the bench and for cups. Definitely keep both. Both are excellent on the ball ability wise.
CDM for City is one of the most if not the most technical position in the team. Comparing acclimatisation into the team against Haaland is grossly unfair. He's come from a team that plays the antithesis of the football we play. He's been excellent for England and I see no reason why he can't adapt. He won't get many chances though and If he can't he'll be gone maybe even as soon as in January and we may target FDJ or similar. There's not many players who are as good or equivalent to Rodders.

I've seen plenty of other fans saying that neither of them were good enough for City. I've always thought that they need more game time for us to really know. As you said, the first season is often hard for players. I remember people saying the same thing about Rodri and others.
In the home match against Chelsea, Gómez played well for the most part, but at times, his first touch seemed off. I remember at one point, he tried a tricky dribbling manoeuvre but completely fluffed it, Sterling was able to take the ball off him so easily. It seemed to me that he was trying too hard to impress, he needs to relax and not try too much, if that makes sense.
I've learnt to reserve judgment on all City signings until they've had a year of Pep under their belts. Grealish, Sane, Rodders, etc… all took a year to get it.
I think at City a player can't be judged on their first season. Between learning what Pep wants and and in which position and just actually getting a consistent run to settle in and show your worth is near impossible with the quality there unless there's an injury. He needs to come good this year though.
How will Phillips ever get a game unless Rodri gets injured & still may not get a game. Think hes just a cup mug
Cryinchenkos's wife openly criticized Pep in her role as a journalist and nothing came of it. Pep has emphasized the need for players to be happy while waiting for their opportunity to play. And his attitude has been excellent. Even if it doesn't work out he took a risk and got rewarded with a few medals. Whether he deserves it is another issue but he took the risk of leaving his club and taking the road less travelled

The main issue with Kalvin last season was his confidence, he didn’t trust himself in so many occasions. I hope he cook next season
As long as Phillips didn't call his mom in tears he should get a second chance and Gomez too.
I'm not sure about either, though they both have quality stroking the ball around, they both have a lack of awareness and their confidence became so rocked that they were in effect hiding. Time will tell.
