Bruno Fernandes is set to take over as Manchester United’s new captain. Since joining United, his output, reliability, and passion has never been questioned – with the Portuguese midfielder being an example of what a Manchester United player looks like. Even while Maguire has been club captain, it is interesting to note that Bruno has captained the club on so many occasions, highlighting the trust that Ten Hag has in him. Ten Hag is leading this team towards great things, and he is doing so his own way, completely. This decision on a new captain will mark yet another huge decision that Ten Hag will be making – and he has already made so many in his first year as United manager. Bruno being crowned as the leader of this dressing room will raise the standards, and will show that failure is not acceptable – with Maguire being the sacrifice. Other players like Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Varane and Rashford also show captain qualities, but not to the degree that Bruno has shown at United quite yet. Hopefully we see Fernandes lifting trophies in the armband, and hopefully the improvement is obvious. Will this decision raise the standards? How much will change with this decision?
