Our final match of pre-season ended in defeat as we were beaten on the road by Tottenham in the Mind Series on Sunday afternoon.

With the start of the new campaign less than a week away, there was much intrigue about our starting XI and what it would say about how we plan to line up at Brentford.

Mikel Arteta named a strong side for this derby clash with Ben White making his first start for us and Albert Sambi Lokonga named in midfield.

The new signings both impressed during a tight first half, Lokonga neat and tidy in midfield with a controlled performance that belied his years, while White didn’t put a foot wrong at the back and always looked ready to push forward out of the backline.

We saw a lot of the ball during the opening 45 minutes, with Alex Lacazette going closest for us with a shot from the edge of the area that kissed the outside of the post.

But it was the hosts who had the two best opportunities of the first half, with Bernd Leno denying Son Heung-min with a brilliant, brave save early on, before Dele Alli struck the woodwork from close range just before the interval.

The Tottenham midfielder repeated the trick, this time from even closer range, just before the hour mark after meeting a free kick at the far post, while Sergio Reguilon fizzed another shot just wide moments later.

The home side eventually scored the only goal of the game when Son fired in from close range, and while we had half chances for Balogun and Bukayo Saka before the end, we couldn’t find a way back into the game.

  1. I missed the game and I thought we were raped and you those kinda games where you just wanna cry but we were great i think, a bit rusted is all

  2. Should sell Bellerin and Aubameyang. Buy new right back and new striker. Smith Rowe is good but he needs more experience. If they can get Maddison the game might change.

  3. We play two games two lost arteta he away to learn and to learn my friend how âge are you arteta you know is no time to learn anymore with you age my friend now we have to wins

  4. I'm going to be different here, I love Arsenal and it hurts me to see things like this. But I also understand that we are over dreaming as fans and not realistic. Arsene Wenger are the reason we are here. Wenger was so good to carry the club for a very long time with migor resources that he became a problem for the rest that were to take over from him. The owners are still stuck with the Wenger brilliance of almost putting nothing but always expecting like he always delivered. The times we were going to Eufa with Wenger and a small budget can not have been managed by any other manager in my opinion. Until the owners understand that there was only none Wenger that could pull such things off, Arsenal will decline more

  5. Even though this was a friendly match but .. they really do need to upgrade the defence, look how vulnerable they were against Spurs attackers without Harry Kane. Just wish Wenger had had stayed there longer. Ars haven't found themsleves for years.

  6. I had respect for these teams for having a derby in England that’s actually big, a pre season game against ur rivals is genuinely embarrassing
