In his first interview since signing for Manchester City from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Mateo Kovacic said he “can’t wait to get started” at his new club.

The 29-year-old Croatia international, who will wear the number eight shirt, is City’s first summer signing and has agreed a four-year deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.

The four-time UEAF Champions League winner admitted he has his sights firmly set on winning his first-ever Premier League title, and also claimed he was looking forward to a friendly battle for midfield places with his new team-mates.

“When you watch the names it’s a pleasure to be here and to play with them, so I can’t wait to try to do my best with them on the pitch,” said Kovavic.

Kovavic has 95 caps for Croatia and before joining Chelsea he played for Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

  1. Wait but didn't he win the Champions League before City? He either has 2 Champions Leagues or one premier league and one Champions League.

  2. I love how these players are so loyal when they move on, amazing how a grotesque amount of money can change your attitude. I hope he does well because after this interview I don't think he has done himself any favours.

  3. Won with Real Madrid and Chelsea, hopefully Kovacic (and Gvardiol) will do the same with the club.
This year, Manchester City had stopped Croatian players winning the Champions League for Inter's Marcelo Brozovic, but at least, we can restart this myth again.

  4. I think this guy spoke from his heart and he already knows what lies ahead , learning , training , intergrating ……and the zest for winning , I personally think for the first time we might have a midfielder who can get stuck in , tackle and WIN the ball . Pep will certainly change the way we play next season , to confound all the other managers plans ! Maybe another new forward , dynamic, strong and direct on the right would complement the team thats now evolving

  5. The interviewer keeps repeating "touched on it there" every question, quite annoying! Hopefully he can correct that! And subtitles also are wrong at 4:42. He said "especially from Tuchel" and text reads "especially from to help"
