  1. Back in 1974, Chacon and Lopez put on one of the biggest local fights in L.A. boxing history. At a sold out Sports Arena, fans saw Chacon win by a 9th round KO, in a savage war. Two great champions.

  2. Back in the later 70's at the,
Main St. Gym, we would witness greatness every day. Danny Lopez was sparring with Herman & John Montes Jr., when the brothers were just coming up. It looked like Danny was wearing 20oz gloves.
In the other ring, Duran was getting ready for his rubber match against Esteban De Jesus (RIP).
One Saturday when leaving the Gym, Paddy Millon (RIP) told us to come to the gym on Sunday morning at 7:00 am. When we walked in, there were about 30 old timers & press people standing around the ring to watch Bobby Chacon spar with Blinky Rodriguez
who was a middleweight. Bobby had a fight for the 130 lb.crown against Alexis Arguello (RIP) in a few days.
In the 2nd or 3rd round, Bobby slipped a lazy looping right hand hook by bending straight down. The punch seemed to graze his lower back.Joe Ponce checked him out and brought a halt to the session. The next day in the L.A. Times, just a couple of lines stated that the fight was being postponed for 3 weeks due to his injury. That was 40 years ago, often wondered,
30 witnesses, the press at 7:00am
on a Sunday sparring with a 160 pounder. Who never Know ?……..
    Memories……….
