Despite their need for a striker and a goalkeeper seemingly far more important to Manchester United’s summer transfer business, some clues in Erik Ten Hag’s approach last season have hinted at the huge importance of a player like Mason Mount.

  1. Great video👍. Had no clue why we were signing Mount. Don't think the deal is worth it if we won't have enough money to get a striker and a keeper but if we do it sounds like a great transfer

  2. if the budget for man u is what is reported, and they can't raise the funds needed, GK and a 9 is a priority. I see why they're going for mount but making him a key target seems ridiculous.

  3. I keep saying. Forget caicedo to Arsenal, Arsenal should go for Mount. Most an ideal Xhaka replacement. That said signing Havertz doesn't seem like that's happening

  4. Great video. I think it's increasingly likely to expect only 3 signings at United this summer, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and that mystery Striker. Honestly we do need Caicedo as well with his versatility as an 8 and 6 (can stand in for Casemiro too), but I don't know what Ten Hag is thinking.

  5. Many channels try to justify the signing in some form or other likely because enough people probably feel it's underwhelming or doesn't fit. Just like Kai Havertz to Arsenal

  6. One thing I noticed last season was that Martinez's ability to break a press with a vertical pass into midfield was excellent but often the receiving midfielders weren't comfortable taking the ball on the half turn and progressing to the final third. A lot of our attacks either broke down or slowed down at this point and we ended up going long to the wingers to cut out this step.

Now that we've got a solid ball playing defender, we desperatly need a midfielder with the ability to receive the ball in space on the half turn and progress it to the likes of Rashford and Antony quickly. It looks like Mount fits this role perfectly, while having the ability to chip in with goals and assists. He will also bring down the age of our midfield.

  7. One more thing to add…
What is the main difference between this season and previous 3 years? Most of the lineup is similar (or same). Midfield played solid. Defense was solid. The biggest difference was Mount in form in previous years dragging us into TOP4 offensively and Mount being out of form/injured, where nobody else had no impact to help that.

Basically Mount was the only player, who worked properly in offensive part of the game (except of wingbacks). And nobody was able to replace his input. Once he was injured, our numbers went from mediocre to terrible. And did not matter if we played Felix, Noni, Sterling or anybody else.

Even this season – we were never doing really well this season. But look at the results and play. Until March Mount was playing. We had some wins, mostly tied the matches. Since his last match 4th March, we had 1 win, 4 ties, 8 loses. You can blame Lampard, but wasnt it partially us missing the most influential player in the team?
