FULL REACTION to Gregg Berhalter getting brought back by USMNT | ESPN FC

If we want to get a top class Manager we must merge with CONMEBOL into a single federation because top class managers want actual competition, they wouldn’t want to coach a team in a weak league.

Also we must remove that equal pay structure for men and women team because if we hire a top class manager, he would ask for more money and we must pay the same amount of money to the women’s team head coach, which doesn’t make any sense.

We are a country with a lot of potential in Soccer. Europe and South America are just getting better and better day by day. If we want to compete with them, we need rapid growth and make the right decisions. Silly decisions like these only descend our team backwards.

Other than that, I will say something that no one has mentioned yet in the media: Berhalter had political support. All the American soccer power players that Matt Crocker had to have checked with before making the final decision. Those are the same people who disseminated talking points about how Gio's parents were meddlers compared with those who opposed Berhalter, how Gio was not well-liked at Borussia Dortmund. I remember months ago thinking how I was surprised that there seemed to be a lot of people putting out the same anti-Reynas (the parents and the player) obviously rehearsed talking points to the media.

Yes, the pool of good coaches was getting smaller the longer they waited. But you simply can't bring Berhalter back…unless…

Gregg's results with the USMNT were not "ok". He could have done so much more with that pool. His tactical straight jacket up front at the 9 ensured that we would NEVER have a fluid attack unless other teams fell apart under pressure from the flanks and chasing to exhaustion at the boundary between our back and middle third. Change that one thing- get rid of the "target 9" mindset- and most of the rest of what Gregg did would have and still can look damb good on the field against most other national teams. But he probably won't make that change by putting a ball carrier at the 9. That sort of sucks, because we have one of the best players in the world in Pulisic at doing just that and STILL put the ball in the net. Almost every great moment Puli has had for the USMNT happened when he was playing hero ball at the point of our attack. There are few defenders and defenses around who can stop him when he makes those drives with his head over the ball.

I doubt that berhalter will be our coach in 2026, he's just a caretaker till ,after Copa America ( 2024), then hopefully, we will bring in a bigtime coach,
