Part 9 of 24 of my player reviews! Aymeric Laporte was brilliant this season. The future of Manchester City’s defence excelled alongside a variety of defensive partners and was key to City’s success in all domestic competitions. I review his 2018/19 contributions in his first full season as a City player.

  1. This was very harsh. He doesn't get enough credit cause he's not an attacker. He marshalled the defense alone this season. A low rating for a great player. Don't agree with it. Love the player reviews though keep em coming

  2. It’s ridiculous that he doesn’t get selected for France. I think they’re missing out on him (even though they won the World Cup)

  3. Amazing season. The spurs game really let him down and unfortunately despite all his amazing games, this is the one I remember. 8.5 is faire

  4. I would have gone with a 9 but 8.5 is fair. Given the costly mistakes against Tottenham, I can see where you are coming from, but he also scored very important goals for us against wolves, Brighton and Lyon. Anyway, top top player and so excited to see how he grows even more into his role next season, probably worth a new partner who will be rotated less than out right sided center backs this season!

  5. Laporte gave us what we expected from him, 28 goals conceded (cut that to 22 for his assists and goals) what is better than that, he gets a 9.5 from me, its only 20 minutes from the time he's played that he made mistakes

  6. Thats harsh on Laporte… He always had to cover zinchenko … And one idd game in a whole season is acceptable .. he won us 4 trophies… For me he deserves 9 if not more

  7. The gaffs against Tottenham ultimately cost us the chance at a quadruple. However, those two blunders are the only two glaring things you can point to over what was a brilliant season. I'd say the 8.5 is fair, but a 8.75 might be more accurate.
