How Takumi Minamino Will Fit into Klopp’s Liverpool, taking at look at the Starting XI, Formation & Tactics. Liverpool have signed RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino for just £7.25 million, which for a player who has performed in the Champions League, is exceptional value. Minamino’s transfer see’s the playmaker set to become the first Japanese player to play for Liverpool.

But how will he fit in to Jurgen Klopp’s plans? Minamino has played a lot of football in a lot of different positions for Salzburg, with him getting minutes in central midfield, number 10, on the left and right wings and even leading the line as a striker. This versatility will be key for Klopp, as he can now freely rotate the lethal front 3 of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino without a major drop off in quality.

Most importantly, it allows Firmino to be rested, without changing the way Liverpool play. Firmino is so key to Klopp, he leads the press, links the play by dropping off the line and is the main source of natural creativity alongside the full backs. Roles that Takumi Minamino fulfills for RB Salzburg and if he translates his form to the Premier League, roles that he will fulfill for Liverpool.

Minamino is the fifth signing of Jurgen Klopp’s whilst he’s been at Liverpool that has played under Ralf Rangnick, joining the likes of Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane. And it’s not surprise considering the similarities in playing style between Ralf Rangnick’s sides, such as RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim, and Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. High pressing, proactive football.

I think if Klopp improves Minamino by a similar amount to the players he’s already improved at Liverpool, players like Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, then Takumi Minamino could be Klopp’s best ever signing, considering the small fee in such a crazy market where uncapped Brazillians like Vinicuis Junior and Rodrigo move for 40 to 50 million pounds.

But how do you think Takumi Minamino will fit into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. MINAMINO IS NOT PLAYING MID. HES THE 3RD WING. Same front 3 but Minamino is the new 4th. He will play right mo play top in a 4231. Mo is moving to Striker . Same 433 then rest Bobby. 433 think Barca with Mo in the middle Minamino on right.

  2. I suppose its a sign of times when 7 mill is fukall …it would keep me in brasses joints and jd for a short while but im a reprobate but i still know a rough diamond when i see one and this lad is undoubtedly going to be an instant hit love these type of busy little players…if im wrong my next brass aint getting a crimbo tip!! Well she might if her b.j's are good!!

  3. You lost your mind in the last 45 seconds but otherwise, very interesting and no doubt pretty damned accurate. I got to say though, I see zero reason for Origi leading the line AND Firmino and Minamino being creators just behind. Of course, it's possible and last game of the season with all the 'right' injuries (ie. no Hendo, Oxo, Winaldo, Keita, Milner,) it could in theory crop up (with the title already in the bag, say). It's just unlikely / never happening in meaningful games.

  4. Imo the perfect player for Liverpool's system…but i tjink Klopp will slot him in midfield three next year in somewhat of a hybrid of number 8 and number 10 role alongside fabinho and hendo…imo ox and Keita will face tough competition for places from takumi

  5. He really does look like a 1 for 1 replacement for Firmino, but he's too good to be used just to give Firmino a rest, or as an injury replacement. The midfield's already very crowded, so he poses a big dilemma. I think Origi's safe, because he accepts being a bench player, and gives the attack a different look. Shaqiri and Lallana, though, have already become bit players, and may very well be sold off.

  6. This move has ruined minaminos career. He is not in his prime years and he is spending them sitting on the bench. He should have moved to a team like Bayer Leverkusen. If be moved to Leverkusen, it would allow them to sell havertz for 80-90 million knowing minamino can come in to replace him. It would also be better for minamino as he would be starting for a champions league team in his prime
