Aaron Mooy, is set to sign a one-year deal with Celtic Fc, with an option for an added 12 months at Parkhead.

The 31-year-old, has been a free agent, since leaving Shanghai Port earlier this year but has been keeping fit at his base in Glasgow. And now he will link up with his former Australia manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of the new campaign with the league season kicking off in a fortnight.

After Celtic’s win away to Banik Ostrava Ange Postecoglou was asked about two specific transfer targets.

Both were praised without any indication that deals were in the pipeline, the general consensus that was neither was about to become a Celtic player.

Overnight it seems that one of those targets, Aaron Mooy, is very close to joining Celtic. If the Australian is almost over the line it puts Postecoglou’s comments on Edouard Michut in a new light.

  1. This is good for Celtic. The way our leader keeps everyone guessing so other teams don't jump the gun with offers we cannot match is brilliant.

  2. This looks like a short term signing to address an area of need.
At age 31 there will be no sell on profit in the future.
Since it's a free transfer, and Ange knows the player, it's a no risk move.
At the very least Mooy will add depth to the squad. HH 🍀

  3. View from afar….
Love Mooy, though thought he was not the right fit at this stage of career. BUT…..Getting him on a free, I yr+, great known back up squad player. Little risk, and (coughs) is not broken down.
Hope it all pans out well
    Cheers

  4. Interesting move, can't go wrong with more options, especially with the injury list we had lost season. I still would like to see a defensive midfielder on the roster.

  5. Mooy is perfect for Anges squad right now in so many ways – ball retention, dictation of play, pace control, dead balls and playing out from the back against a high press (aka rangers!) – he needs the games and conditioning for the upcoming world cup, the scottish missus etc but most importantly for him its his last crack at the champions league. Top bloke, experience for the dressing room, competition for places, quality in depth – free transfer, no brainer!

  6. Im am an Australian again some of the comments are stupid by the Scottish people you think you would of learnt from the manager last season. Mooy is a quality midfielder. He is only on a 1 year contract, there was no fees. Its a win for Celtic and Mooy as he need to be match fit for the Australian team at the World Cup. Mooy is a brilliant buy that cost nothing. Scottland stop complaining you make Scottland look foolish. Ps my Grand Fathers Scottish

  7. Notice comments regarding low risk transfer, squad player, off the bench etc. but to be honest, I can't see it. Mooy was earning top dollars in China and now he wants to come back to the UK to win something meaningful to cap off his career, as well as get some Champions League exposure. While the deal is for a year, he'll be looking to extend it by putting in some good performances early. It is probably only one year because his agent might have been looking to preserve an amount closer to what Mooy has been on, so there will be some pressure to show his value longer term. He would have had other offers to play in the starting 11, so I'm fairly convinced that he'll be in the starting line up and will be subbed out later in matches. He wont be taking anything for granted.
