Recruits flipping on signing day from one Power Five school to another always causes quite a stir, but the last minute about face an elite linebacker pulled on South Carolina Wednesday was a doozy.
As it turns out that was the whole rather sleazy point coming from Maryland’s view after hearing USC coach Shane Beamer describe the situation as nothing more than an underhanded elaborate ruse.
Top prospect Jaishawn Barsham caused quite a celebration within the Gamecocks program Saturday when he publicly announced, clad in USC apparel along with family members that he was committing to USC. It was a huge get for Beamer and his staff with Barsham ranked the No. 108 prospect and eighth-best linebacker in the 247Sports Composite.
He was by far the highest-rated commit of Beamer’s two recruiting classes with the next highest signee this year being safety Keenan Nelson Jr. at 219th overall and 19th at his position.

It was planned. Barsham's family said as much. They called Beamer right after he announced for Carolina and said he was going to flip. No hard feelings toward the young man. I wish he was a Gamecock but wish him the best at a Terp.

Nah, according to Shane Beamer someone from Maryland told him right before signing day that Barham was going to Maryland all along and wanted to announce it at the last moment (presumably to build suspense)? Which probably explains why he wouldn't give any interviews as well. He's already old news, so I don't even care that he did that.
It was all panned out and the coach and mom were in on it. Read about their coach, he has been dirty a lot.
Maryland certainly comes out of this looking shady to orchestrate that type of deception. On the other hand, the mom and Barsham agreeing to go along with it says something about them as well. Shady on all parties there. Good riddance.

Could you imagine giving up opportunities like playing in the SEC, Bigger NIL deals, Large Fan Base, Tv Exposure, Top of the line facilities, Top of the line health/nutrition, One of the best Gameday atmospheres, better track to the NFL….just to throw it all away at the last minute to go the Maryland University to play football? If it were not so shady it would be comical lol
Shane Beamer just trashed a St Francis player and his mom publicly. Not a good look for SC because the DMV powerhouse schools protect the kids.
LSU has been banned from the DMV following St Francis lead and the same can happen to SC.
Ultimately this is Bargam's decision.

Fact check: ALL reports are false… No one from MD called Beamer and told him that Jai was going to flip because they didn't know… (Beamer's statement was a PR move to answer the question why a 4 star recruit choose another school over SC) It was a family decision that was discussed over the 3 days after his commitment to SC and it had nothing to do with the MD coaching staff doing anything dirty… We wanted him to go abroad to get the college experience but he always wanted to stay home… We had nothing against the MD program we just wabted him to get away but we always felt that the MD program had people in place that would look out for his nest interest…
We didn't want him to choose a school based on what we wanted so we allowed him to follow his desires and recommit to MD… We have nothing but respect for the coaches at SC and we are highly disappointed with the spin that is being placed on our son's name in an attempt to rally their fan base… But we also understand that this is a business and it's all a part of the PR game… Lastly, we told a member of the SC staff that Jaishawn was going to MD and I have the recording to prove it… But there is no need to expose anymore controversy… We just want to move on and allow our son to follow his dream… In the end, that's all it's about for us… 💯
After what Coach Beamer had to say sounds like a sleezy kid from a sleezy family the people have no honor and were better off with out him
LMAO!!! Don’t be salty Bro. And last I checked Maryland was in the Big Ten. That kid is gonna be just fine at Maryland, and honestly it is a way better choice for him in coaching, facilitates, exposure and NFL potential.
You need to do more homework on Maryland Hun. Always remember don’t judge others before checking yourself. This is his life he worked hard for and don’t owe anyone any explanation of his decision. Don’t hate congratulate. You’ll see what Maryland will do to make you remember the name. All the best.
