‘Eric just gets there and does NOTHING’: Jermaine Jenas slams Tottenham defender Dier for failing to deal with Theo Hernandez in build-up to Milan’s winner in Champions League tie

Jermaine Jenas hit out at Tottenham defender Eric Dier for not being aggressive enough in the build-up to Milan’s winning goal on Tuesday night.
Theo Hernandez was allowed to bear down on goal after convincingly winning an areal duel with right back Cristian Romero.
His shot was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster, but Brahim Diaz forced the ball home at the second attempt in the seventh minute. Jenas said: ‘When you get to that situation where Eric Dier comes into the equation he has to much better there.
‘Right here is the moment where he’s looking at and why are you allowing him to take that touch there?
‘That touch makes no sense to me. I kind of understand you have to be cautious in the box. He’s got a player to square it to.
‘This is a moment where you have to stop this phase of play. He’s not aggressive enough, Dier. He’s leaning backwards, there’s no real aggression to his play.
‘I’ve been in those situation where you might cut onto your left side. Defenders are clever. They’ll give you little nudges that knock you off guard or make you feel uncomfortable.
‘Eric just gets there and does nothing.’
Spurs suffered a dispiriting 1-0 Champions League defeat at AC Milan in their last-16 first-leg tie, which came on the back of a 4-1 Premier League thumping at Leicester at the weekend.
Jenas added: ‘It was mistake after mistake and a reoccurring theme following on from a terrible defensive display from all of them against Leicester. That’s a big negative.
‘You can’t afford those things in the Champions League in the knockout stages. If they do that in the return leg they’ve got no chance.’
Dier will be suspended after he collected a second-half booking at the San Siro.

Eric just wanted a dance
Heβs a man with a fork in a world of soup!
The point being? … He is a contracted player, who no doubt does his best, unfortunately his best is below standard, I'm sure even he knows that. So why kick one of our own when they are down? It serves what purpose? Anyway, usually enjoy your stuff.
Awaiting 1 for reckless Romero, should be long…
Has 4 assists in two games. Been here too long. 8 years!
Best bet would be to do what we did with Doherty and Aurier! Nobody's gonna pay money for him!
What I have soon of Eric D this season I'm starting to think Emerson R is a better defender π¬
Knowing we were short in midfield I was expecting Dier to play there last night but realised he would struggle in the creative or defensive roles
He`s a leader cause he points and looks focused…
Biggest poser we`ve had for years
I coined him βDierbolical Dierrheaβ. The Epitome of Liability. Never despised a Tottenham player as much as this one. He undermines all the quality (the little that currently exists) and the hard work (when they can be arsed) of all his teammates.
I thought romero was alright but heβs a bloody liability heβs never far away from a red or balls up
he is just benny from crossroads in disguise
Why is he still at the club. I will swear a lot if he is offered a new contract
He's the reason why there's instructions on the back of a shampoo bottle!
I hate how Eric never takes responsibility for his own cock ups , choosing instead to berate and point the finger at his teammates . Makes me π‘π‘

In all honesty we haven't had a proper centre half since Mike England and that was a long long time ago
Should of gone after Zagreb.
his the worst defender in EPL
The fact that 4th choice under poch somehow is a defensive lynchpin now is beyond ridiculous.
About as useful as a chocolate fireguard dier
I have noticed the narrative of 'dier learning his trade at centre back' has now gone. Only took 7 years. I couldn't see a prem team or championship one buying him. Where would he go from here football wise???
