Manchester United are reluctant to get into a bidding war with Manchester City over Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson. Anderson, 23, is a target for both Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
The England international has enjoyed another impressive season with Forest, who signed him from boyhood club Newcastle for £35million two years ago. It’s now claimed that Forest are quoting a whopping £120m for Anderson, a fee which United have scoffed at.
ESPN are reporting that Old Trafford chiefs believe his asking price to be vastly inflated, so any first bid would be below that. However, United would be willing to walk away if City’s interest results in a bidding war.
The report adds that United hope to cover the cost of their top midfield signing with funds made through departures. Andre Onana, Manuel Ugarte, Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee have all been put up for sale by the Red Devils, who are also preparing to say goodbye to out-of-contract trio Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

With Ugarte potentially following Casemiro out the door, United plan to sign two midfielders as well as a left winger and a defender in what’s set to be a busy summer. Anderson’s value could even increase during the World Cup, having nailed down a starting position for the Three Lions under Thomas Tuchel.
Although the 23-year-old is contracted to Forest until 2029, it’s thought that he wouldn’t be keen to drop down to the Championship. Forest sit five points above the relegation zone but aren’t out of the woods yet.
Anderson has been tight-lipped on his future, saying during the March international break: “We’ve obviously got the World Cup this summer, so all my eyes are on that and playing for England. I’ve obviously got the badge on now, so that’s what I’m thinking about at the moment.”

United have alternatives to Anderson, including Premier League stars Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali. Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has also emerged as a target in recent weeks.
Whoever is signed will need to compliment Kobbie Mainoo after the academy graduate agreed a new five-year contract with United, who are preparing an announcement.
