Liverpool have made a habit of recruiting up-and-coming talent in recent years.

Jeremy Jacquet was signed in the winter transfer window, along with a couple more youngsters who were put into Rob Page’s U21 setup.

Now, the Reds have their eyes on another rising star but face competition from Chelsea and Newcastle United.

According to a report from TeamTalk, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle are all showing an interest in Granaas and are ‘firmly in the race’ for him.

The 16-year-old is currently on the books of Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK and has started to feature for their senior side recently.

In 2025/26, the central midfielder has made six appearances, including one in a Europa Conference League qualifier, in which he has scored one goal.

Despite his age and lack of experience, Granaas is already earning high praise from his teammates.

Back in June 2025, Simen Rafn said, as per VG Sporten: “He’s got fantastic ability, but it’s his mindset that impresses me most.

“He was with us at training camp as a 14-year-old, and he comes in and takes the locker room from the first day.”

On the inevitable comparisons to Martin Odegaard, he added: “Odegaard is a fantastic player. Eirik is very young. You can say an incredible amount of nice things about Eirik, but I think we should give him time.

“A football career is incredibly long. It’s not about how good you are when you’re 15. Eirik will be at the top in 10–15 years. As long as he trains hard and has his feet on the ground, he can get as far as he wants.”

The likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested.

But as the report from TeamTalk mentions, FIFA regulations regarding the international transfer of minors mean that he could not officially move teams until 2028, when he is 18.
