This period has been described as ‘one of the most important six weeks’ for the ponies.
In a post from New Forest Roads Awareness, people were reminded that these animals will be moving quickly and unexpectedly, urging people to keep their distance.
The public is also advised to use zoom for photos rather than getting too close.
New Forest Roads Awareness said: “This is one of the most important 6 weeks for Forest run ponies, and the start of our next generation.
“Mares will be very pleased to see them and will be herded into groups by the boys.”
“Livestock will be crossing roads at speed, and in places you will least expect.
“Keep your distance and if you want to take a photo, use the zoom.
“Please help us keep them and everyone safe this breeding season.”
