The proposal, lodged with Southampton City Council, seeks to change the use of the first and second-floor flat at 241A Portswood Road from a single dwelling to a small HMO for between three and six tenants.

Located below the flat is fast food eatery Chickaros. The application, validated on April 13, has been made by Saleem Ahmed of Kensington Properties (Southern) Ltd.

The current five-bed flat is split across two floors and has two ensuite bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen-living room. These would be kept under the HMO plans.

Documents submitted to the Southampton City Council’s planning portal states the property is currently used as a residential apartment and that no external building works are proposed as part of the change of use.

HMOs are often created to meet the growing demand for housing.

The site covers approximately 167 square metres and is not located in a flood risk area, according to the application.

The application is currently awaiting a decision.
