Thirteen people were forced to leave homes as a precautionary measure fire crews and police arrived at the scene before closing the road.
While a cause of the has not yet been determined it has not been deemed suspicious and was suspected to be accidental.
Crews from three fire stations attended the fire before its stop came.
The road was eventually reopened before 10am and no injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Charminster Road, Bournemouth at 5.09am this morning (27 April) for a fire at a commercial premises.
“Three crews attended, from Springbourne, Westbourne and Redhill Park, and four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and a main jet were used.
“Thirteen people from flats above the affected building were evacuated as a precaution.”
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 5.32am from the fire service reporting crews were in attendance at a property fire in Charminster Road in Bournemouth.
“It was confirmed there was no requirement for police assistance.”
