Aston Villa are eyeing the defender who has been a European elite target, including Juventus and Barcelona, in the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa transfer business starts sooner as the season is heading to an end. Several targets have been identified, and one name has been their focus lately. According to the report from ole.com.ar, Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi is one target Villa is making a push for negotiation, but they are not the only suitors, as Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham express the same interest.

His contract situation and future

The Argentine centre back has had his contract expire this summer and has also reportedly rejected three offers from The Cherries. Thus, he will be available as a free agent. Such an opportunity is simply too good to pass on for Villa.

Senesi has been the key man in Bournemouth since joining the Dorset side in 2022. He signed for The Cherries for an undisclosed fee from Feyenoord.

The defender with three international caps has reportedly rejected a move to Juventus. He prefers to stay in the Premier League instead. The Lions are definitely the frontrunner in the race, as Senesi would most likely be playing in the Champions League next season. He is definitely an upgrade from Tyrone Mings or Victor Lindelöf, who are already past their best.

The only problem is if Manchester United comes with a better offer and higher salary than what Villa does, plus guarantees him a spot in the starting XI.

How good is Marco Senesi?

The defender who began his professional career in San Lorenzo has made 124 appearances for the Cherries. He has registered six goals and 10 assists, five of which are in this season alone.

His contribution at the backline is excellent. According to FotMob, Senesi has made 377 defensive contributions, including blocking shots, tackles, and interceptions. The Argentine also has made 229 clearances. His percentage in successful crosses is fine too, reaching up to 32%.

Senesi is also often involved in goal-scoring attempts. He has made 17 shots, with five of them shots on target. His expected goals (xG) are 1.52 this season.

No wonder that plenty of suitors are keen on signing him considering his quality and current availability. However, nothing seems to be confirmed yet. The former Feyenoord man might be waiting till the end of the season to see which sides come out with their best offer and chance to play in the continental competition.

For Villa, the Fulham defeat is definitely a slight setback. They must bounce back and keep on improving their performance and position in the standings as Emery aims to target them in order to convince him of the move to Villa Park. Otherwise, Aston Villa transfer business in the summer would not be ideal by possibly losing him to go elsewhere.
