Nottingham Forest beat Sunderland 5-0 on Friday night as the Reds laid down a marker in the fight against relegation.

West Ham and Tottenham did gain huge wins on Saturday, but Forest remain five clear of Spurs with a game less to play in this turbulent campaign.

Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White was once again on the score sheet as he took his tally to 16 for this season in all competitions.

After the game, his teammate Taiwo Awoniyi sent a firm message to Thomas Tuchel indirectly via the number 10’s official Instagram account.

Tuchel might not think Gibbs-White deserves a place in the England squad this summer, but Awoniyi clearly does, given his latest form.

After the match, Gibbs-White posted a message to the supporters suggesting that the players won’t stop despite this victory.

Awoniyi was massively impressed with his teammate and posted: “World Cup my G.”

Gibbs-White has played for England previously, but he missed out on the 35-man squad for two friendlies last month, and that could hamper his chances.

One thing in Gibbs-White’s favour is that players like Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are currently bang out of form, and the Forest man has timed his run to absolute perfection.

If Gibbs-White can help Forest progress again in Europe and reach the 20-goal mark, it could prove to be a truly special few months for the player if he can twist Tuchel’s arm.
