Elliot Anderson scored for Nottingham Forest against Sunderland on Friday night in a fitting tribute to his late mother.

Anderson and his family are all huge Geordies, and it’s fair to say that his mum would have been immensely proud of her son for sticking it to the Black Cats.

It was also a good night on the pitch for Chris Wood, who bagged his first goal since returning from knee surgery, with the former Newcastle striker finishing brilliantly from close range.

The two former Newcastle stars will have enjoyed the win over Sunderland, and after the match, Anderson shared what he’d been saying to Wood ahead of the game.

The Forest squad have been rooting for Wood to get back among the goals, and he did that by scoring a second goal for Forest against Sunderland.

Anderson was quizzed on what it was like to have Wood back on the pitch and scoring goals, and he shared exactly what he’d been saying to his teammate before the game.

He said on Sky Sports: “It’s good to have him back and for him to score. I was speaking to him the other day, and he said when you come back from injury and score, you get huge confidence, so I’m really happy for him.”

Forest desperately need Wood to step up and score a few more goals with four matches of the Premier League campaign remaining.

😍How would sum up the performance vs Sunderland in just one word?

What a performance!

It’s great, however, that other players have been chipping in with some goals in recent weeks, with Igor Jesus and Morgan Gibbs-White in particular proving clinical in front of goal.

Now, the onus is on Wood to get back to his best to aid Forest’s fight for survival and European ambitions and a goal against Sunderland should do him the world of good.
