Giorgi Mamardashvili’s injury is not as bad as first feared – but the goalkeeper is still set for a spell on the sidelines for Liverpool.
The goalkeeper provoked concern when he stayed down after receiving a hefty blow to the knee from Everton’s Beto on the follow-through from scoring an equaliser in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot later revealed that Mamardashvili had suffered a ‘big wound’ in the collision and that the injury was not expected to rule him out long term.
However, The Athletic adds that the keeper is set to miss “at least a fortnight” – which presents an issue for Liverpool given no.1 Alisson Becker is also out of action with a hamstring injury.

Alisson is on a similar timeline to Mamardashvili now, with Liverpool hoping the Brazilian will be back in time to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 3.
That means that third-choice stopper Freddie Woodman is likely to line up against his boyhood club Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Woodman came through the academy at Palace before making the move to Newcastle United.
The bulk of Woodman’s career has been spent playing in the Championship for Swansea and Preston North End.
Woodman also made a handful of appearance for Newcastle in the Premier League in 2021/22 before leaving for Deepdale.

The 29-year-old made the move to Anfield last summer alongside Mamardashvili to bring additional depth to Liverpool’s ranks.
Liverpool face a crucial few weeks as they look to make sure they hold onto their position in the top five and earn a Champions League place for next season.
Their hopes of doing so have been significantly boosted by Chelsea’s dreadful form, which has helped open up a five-point gap between the Reds in fifth and Brighton in sixth.
