Translated from the article

Since Luis Campos has been at Paris Saint-Germain, the Portuguese manager has loved to recruit his compatriots. Vitinha, Gonçalo Ramos, João Neves and Nuno Mendes are the most telling examples. Well, according to our information, the capital club is targeting another Lusitano. It is Mateus Fernandes. We are able to tell you that contacts have even been established between the two parties. The 21-year-old midfielder is a nugget trained by Sporting Portugal, who discovered the Premier League in 2024 with Southampton. After the Saints' relegation to the Championship, West Ham came to sign him for €44 million last summer. A central attacking midfielder with a good sense of passing, Fernandes (3 goals, 3 assists in 31 Premier League games) is one of the Hammers' permanent starters (30 starts). Under contract until 2030, will the Portuguese international (1 cap) join the Portuguese contingent in Paris?[]()

I could see it happening, especially if Ruiz is leaving but he would be 4th choice for a 3 men midfield behind Wolves legend Vitinha, Joao Neves, and Zaire Emery.

  2. Surprised that Man City aren’t after him, could easily replace Bernardo Silva in that deeper role he’s currently playing

Crap if he left BUT I’d accept a stupidly high bid for him, especially if it helps balances the books. Still a silly price tag, say, £100,000,000 and see how keen that interest is.

  4. We will be selling quite a few players we are skint. Next year will be another relegation battle only with a worse squad

One hope is Fernandes is a Mendes client

He needs to have a good think about this if this does materialize. For me he is a great talent who can play at that level some day but for now he isn’t ready for it. He’s far better to go to stay with us if we stay up and play another couple of seasons and develop his talent or if we go down move to a Europa league team where he is guaranteed to play. The worst thing he can do right now is to go to a super team and become a squad player. There are so many young talented players making these moves too early in their career and it kills their development. Hopefully Fernandes has the right people advising him and realizes this. I really want this lad to fulfill his potential regardless of if it’s at West Ham or not.

Makes sense, think he’s looked even better than Rice did at 21 years old

Would love another season with him if we stay up – but unless the club radically transformes back into a European competition side, he’s going to move on to somewhere that’ll offer that

Brilliant player, if he has to go (and for the right fee) then I’d much rather PSG than another prem club.

  8. He is really damn good. Will hate if he leaves. Hes a shorter version of declan rice. The exact replacement we needed

Ppl come a go. If we sell wisely and buy even better, I am in peace. This is how normal teams live. Not like Max Kilman though

  10. What a player, he could play in any team. Loved watching him when he was a saint, hope we get a big sell on if he goes PSG
