Chelsea have parted ways with Liam Rosenior after just 107 days in the hot seat.
While Newcastle United continue to stay silent on the future of under-pressure Eddie Howe, Chelsea have wasted little time axing their second manager this season.
Ever since Rosenior’s players respected the ball along with referee Paul Tierney against Newcastle, he’s presided over five consecutive defeats without scoring a goal.
You can say what you like about Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, but at least we’ve not been that bad. Not that we’ve been much better in all honesty.
Chelsea have Andoni Iraola in their sights
Chelsea are now looking to appoint an ‘established’ manager to succeed Rosenior, according to the iPaper.
Andoni Iraola has emerged as an early favourite to take over one of the hottest hot seats in the professional game, which comes off the back of the Spaniard being linked with usurping Eddie Howe at Newcastle following his announcement to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Other potential candidates are Fulham’s Marco Silva, whose future is currently uncertain, and Cesc Fabregas, who has worked wonders with Italian side Como.
We’re waiting for the Howe to Chelsea stories
It’s still very early days, but we’ve yet to see Eddie Howe linked with Chelsea in any ‘serious’ manner, but we’re expecting it to come any minute now.
Representatives from the PIF, including Yasir Al-Rumayyan, are due in Newcastle next week for a planned meeting, but the agenda has changed slightly on the back of recent results, and it’s now expected that Eddie Howe will be part of the meeting to discuss next steps.
The noises coming out of the club are that Eddie Howe retains the full backing of the board, but until a high-level representative actually comes out and says as much, speculation will continue.
Now, seeing a Premier League side making a managerial change at this point in the season is only going to embolden those who think Newcastle should do the same.
The need for the club to break its silence is getting stronger.
