Chelsea enter Anthony Gordon transfer race

Alejandro Garnacho slammed for Brighton performance

Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as the club reassesses its attacking options following another poor display from Alejandro Garnacho.

The London outfit are now monitoring Gordon as a potential attacking addition this summer, with Liverpool also interested. Reports have come in amid Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton last night, after Garnacho put up another dismal performance after coming off the bench.

Garnacho struggles again for Chelsea

Garnacho’s latest outing against Brighton hasn’t helped his recent struggles. Coming on at half time, the Argentine failed to make any impact as Chelsea slipped to a fifth consecutive defeat in the Premier League.

The Standard gave him a rating of 3/10 and stated: “Didn’t have anything like the deserved impact off the bench and was flagged inexplicably offside when Chelsea had a huge chance to counter.”

This adds more scrutiny around the winger, whose inconsistency and antics off the pitch have frustrated supporters throughout the campaign. With just 1 goal and 4 assists in 23 appearances, Chelsea need quality on the wing and hence are exploring options.

Chelsea enter Anthony Gordon transfer race

The Blues are now reportedly looking to strengthen their attacking department next summer, after another poor display by their attackers after failing to score in five consecutive games.

Chelsea see Anthony Gordon as a quality attacker but the Magpies won’t entertain any offers unless their £75 million valuation is met. The England international has become one of Eddie Howe’s most important players, thanks to his pace, relentless work rate and his ability to carry the ball in transition.

The London club’s search for quality on the flank has reportedly led them to Gordon, as per TEAMtalk, with the former Everton man’s work on Tyneside admired across the league.

Newcastle United could hear offers from Europe

For Newcastle United, Chelsea’s interest in Gordon is both flattering and problematic, with the Magpies already having to fight off interests from Liverpool and Bayern Munich. The 25-year-old is a key figure in Eddie Howe’s team, combining attacking and defensive output only a few wide players can match.

Losing him would be a big setback, especially with the club looking to rebound next season. Unless Chelsea are prepared to make an enormous offer, the Magpies are expected to stand firm.

With the Blues now looking to enter an already competitive race, Anthony Gordon is turning out to be one of the most sought-after names in the transfer window. He is now an established Premier League attacker and one of the players the top clubs would like to have next season.
