I think he thinks of himself as the Free Roaming Creative and Goalscoring threat that can play how he wants, similar to Lionel Messi. Except that he can‘t dribble and pass and Build up, nor has the technique, Vision etc…

He’s not necessarily a LW like Vini, I know he’s inconsistent but Vini is a much better dribbler and way more explosive, and not only cuts inside to shoot but is always playing crosses into
the box. Mbappe hardly crosses and pretty much is only on the left to cut inside.
Mbappe is not a striker because he drops deep too much, and tries to dribble a lot. And also, he hardly makes runs in the box and isn’t an arial threat. So pretty much I think he’s a LF or left forward.
Not a RM fan, but for some reason this sub just keeps popping out in my recommendations. It’s incredibly unfair to question only Mbappe’s position. With the ball Madrid doesn’t have any positional structure whatsoever, everyone is where they want to be.

What position did Benzema play? Because he certainly wasn’t in the box all the time. I remember him majority of the time playing on the LW and even dropping back into a CM/CDM position to get the ball.
