Joined in the Championship and still here. An absolute club legend, despite what some will have you believe. Definitely the right time though. Hope he goes out a winner.

  2. Timing probably right though I’m curious to see where he ends up. Always felt he got a ridiculous amount of criticism for Rangers’ failures (of course not from most) despite him always being their main man for basically his entire time there.

Just glad he won’t be scoring FKs or random goals in derby games anymore. His numbers even this season are pretty ridiculous.

  3. Phenomenal numbers across his time and held his own in Europe against some of the very best. Off the park never a Bother and carries himself with class. Seem some fantastic right backs from 93
On, he’s the best of the lot.

  4. Can’t deny he’s been a consummate professional. Always been a complete pain for us (and many other teams), which tells you all you need to know 😂

Seems to have put up with a fair amount of unwarranted stick recently, which is a shame, but he can leave with his head held high.

  5. Always thought he was a class player if I’m honest, memes aside. Genuinely the only player on Rangers for absolutely ages who could turn an OF game in an instant and had a knack for making even the most dominant Celtic performances somehow seem at threat with sensational goals from nothing.

Glad to see the back of him despite enjoying laughing at him for the last decade

  7. Hope he’s goes out as a league champion. Or runner up to celtic again. I’m not fussy.

Will be sad to see him go as he’s been great for the club. Hope he gets another league title and a testimonial to see him off.

Club has been desperate for a new starting RB for a few years now, atleast this will force their hand.

  9. I think it’s a perfect time for all to be honest what a great opportunity to go out with a title too, and I’m fully believe the statement people won’t realise how good James Tavernier is until he’s gone

  10. The European nights on the road to Seville will stay with me forever. His goal against Dortmund still gives me goosebumps. Will be strange not seeing his name on the team sheet anymore.

  11. He’ll be difficult to replace, and opposition teams certainly won’t miss him. Pulled Rangers out of a hole on countless occasions.

That said, hoping to see him deliver one last ‘disappointed’ at the end of the season.

  12. What a guy. Loved him since the 6-2 Hibs game

edit just realised that was his first game…..

It’s the right time, but he’s irreplaceable. Where are we going to find a right back who contributes as much at the sharp end of the field as he does? There just aren’t any.

  14. First John Cena retiring and now this, my childhood is officially over. Best Rangers player I’ve ever seen.

    Rip the goat.

  15. 562 games and 144 goals for us. Won everything (all be it not frequently enough due to god awful teammates at times) and a European final. Yup I think he might be difficult to replace.

Was a top player for Rangers, especially in their run to the Europa final. Did have his defensive issues, but his numbers were always insane. A model professional.

Take the memes and laughs aside, he’ll be tough to replace. Been a great servant despite playing with some absolute dross.

Comes across as a decent guy too.

As others are saying, hoping for one last ‘disappointed’ for old times sake.

Can’t fault his effort, commitment, and those G/A returns. Solid player for us. Just a shame his time here didn’t bring in more trophies. We have been such an utter shambles for the last decade at board and management level.

Right timing. The club is heading in the right direction under Rohl and he just can’t sustain that top level for too much longer

  20. The only Rangers player I would want at Celtic. A great servant to Rangers for years, I rate him very highly and will actually be sad to see him leave 🍀

  21. He’s been a servant and did them well with no controversy. He can leave head held high knowing he did them proud.

Without a doubt the greatest Rangers RB in my lifetime (and we’re the same age).

He is a modern day legend and has stuck with us through thick and thin. He absolutely deserves to go out on a high this season. Can only hope those around him recognize this and use it as added incentive to win the league.

Will fill like there is a big part of the club missing when he leaves as he has been the thread through several iterations of teams in the last decade, but wish him all the best and hope he makes a fuck tonne of money wherever he goes next.

He has been a great captain though difficult times for Rangers.
The league win and Europa league final were great achievements for him.
    A Rangers legend for sure.

  24. Knew it was likely coming but sad to see him go. We will never see a player like him in Scotland again. Someone getting the numbers he got from fullback is pretty much unheard of. And for all the criticism of him defensively he actually improved that massively as time went on. Unfortunately his pace has left him the last couple of seasons and in the position he plays that’s vital.

An absolute club legend and I hope once he retires a role can be found for him at the club if he wants it.

Good luck to whoever replaes him full time because it’s not going to be easy.

  25. Would take him at falkirk but his wages are probably to much for us and he probably isn’t interested.

  26. Regardless of where your loyalties lie, you have to respect a player who has put so much into one club through good times and alot of bad. The right time to leave no doubt but the man is a legend of gers

  27. He was creaking so it’s the right decision for him and the team.

Rangers will miss him massively, big boots to fill.

  28. I think time will be kind to Taverniers contributions at Rangers. A lot of the stick he got always seemed rather unfair and OTT imo.

  29. Such a strange trajectory for him as a Rangers player.

Right from the start his attacking prowess was evident, but his defensive frailties cost us more than a few goals and arguably games.

But people still talk about him as if those frailties were there for his whole career with us. There was a good 3-4 years especially where, odd brainfart aside, he was great defensively, while posting simply unreal attacking stats. To be totally honest I’m really surprised no one came in for him during that period. His European numbers alone were consistently up there with much bigger names.

In the last few years his pace has undeniably gone. That started with the defensive mistakes creeping back up, and lately it’s obvious that even his biggest strength in the final 3rd is going. This is the right time to end it.

In a team surrounded by better players, the Tav of 2019-2022 would, for me, be in contention for even our strongest teams in the 90s.
