Jamie Carragher and Dean Ashton were seriously impressed by James Justin’s overhead kick as Leeds United beat Wolves on Saturday.

United’s position as a Premier League club is on the way to being assured this week as we sit eight points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham.

Five games remain for Leeds, with one of the bottom three now confirmed as down. United’s win over Wolves consigned Rob Edwards’ men to the Championship, confirmed on Monday night with West Ham’s draw.

The goal that put Leeds on the way to being eight clear of the drop was a moment of true magic from a fan favourite, James Justin.

Another dangerous Ao Tanaka corner was almost scrambled in by Ethan Ampadu, only to be denied by Dan Bentley. However, as Noah Okafor kept the chance alive, Justin opportunistically pulled off a stunning overhead kick to give Leeds the lead.

That goal was given a special moment to savour on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football last night. Jamie Carragher and Dean Ashton took a look at the footage, and shared a moment to laugh at Rio Ferdinand as a result.

Ashton, of course, scored an iconic overhead kick away at Old Trafford for West Ham in 2008. He initially broke down the movement that allowed Justin to open the scoring.

“It is [one to savour],” Ashton began, analysing Justin’s actions. “In terms of technique, you want left arm to start, which it does. And then the left leg just flicks, and the right comes through.

“He’s made it look very, very simple.”

Then, Ashton was tasked to revisit his iconic strike at Old Trafford.

“Funny you should say that. Get off, Rio!” Ashton said as Carragher was left in stitches.

“It’s one of those moments you dream about, you go for it and it came off.”

Another moment of brilliance as Leeds United enjoy James Justin’s form

Give Leicester another £8million for Justin, they’re going to need it.

He’s been an absolute revelation wherever he’s played for us this season. And, this overhead kick is just the latest moment of true class he’s added to our side.

I didn’t have huge hopes for him in our side, but as reliable backup, I always thought it would be a shrewd signing. Since, he’s completely blown expectations out of the water.

What a signing he has been, and this goal was proof once again, on top of a magnificent overall display.
