Liverpool claimed a massive 2-1 win over Everton in dramatic fashion, with the Reds coming through a tense Merseyside derby to keep building momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

It was not a perfect performance from Arne Slot’s side and there were moments when Everton looked capable of taking something from the game, but Liverpool beat Everton right at the death, securing what could be a huge result in the context of the run-in.

As ever after a big result, Rousing The Kop readers have been having their say on TalkingPoints, debating who stood out most at Anfield and what the victory could mean for Liverpool’s hopes of ending the season on a positive note.

Are Liverpool making the right call by sticking with Arne Slot? 🤔

What does he need to do to get the fans and players back on side?

The results of the player poll showed just how tight the debate was.

Mohamed Salah came out on top with 35% of the vote, narrowly ahead of Curtis Jones on 33%. Cody Gakpo received 19%, while 13% of supporters opted for someone else.

Although Salah just edged it, Gakpo appeared to get the most praise in the comments section.

One fan said: “Shout out to Gakpo, thought he did well. Wish he’d pass to Isak more, but there were much more positive signs.”

Another Reds supporter admitted: “As much as I and many fans slate Gakpo, he was good today. Curtis was also decent and Mo was a little better too. Great result that we probably didn’t deserve.”

A third fan also singled Gakpo out, saying: “Gakpo had a good game, had to get him in over Rio.” Meanwhile, another fan kept it simple on Jones, writing: “Jones was brilliant.”

The conversation then turned to what the result could mean for Liverpool in the table.

One fan said: “Third is still on! I know it won’t mean much to finish there instead of, say, sixth, but if we can still finish above United then we’ve at least recovered well.”

Another supporter felt there is still plenty to play for, adding: “I think we’ll be absolutely fine. It doesn’t help that we’ve got Villa and United away, but it could also mean we end up finishing ahead of both. Third genuinely is on and it’s important to go into the summer with some positivity.”

Others were a little more cautious. One fan wrote: “Fifth secured, not that it’s much to get excited about but still.”

Another added: “Still time for a positive end to the season if we can take points off United and Villa, a big if.”

One supporter even went a step further, claiming: “I think this result just secured Champions League football.”
