This is how Garnacho compare's in key attacking metrics vs other players in the league who are linked with summer moves for 70 million + this summer.

The ranks are based on output p90.

This isnt intended to say anyone's "eye test" is wrong and I understand the players personality impacts how he is viewed.

I just think its always interesting where there is a big gap between stats and how a player is perceived.

  1. He is someone who is direct and always look to create something. A high risk high reward type and that’s why the stat is better

Npg/90 is 13.7 ? 13.7 what exactly ? Besides what good is the p90 goals stat when he has _one_ prem goal all season

In fact what do half these numbers even mean ? 92.6 dribbles completed per 90 ? Is that his percentage success rate for dribbles because it’s closer to the low 40s

  3. Nice but we have eyes and watch the games. This isn’t the club for this kind of player.

  4. The level of left wingers in the league is atrocious… I cant remember it being worse honestly

That doesnt make Garnacho any better though. But lets be real hes a backup anyway, Estavao Injury has killed us.

We need to go buy a starting Left winger with quality, but where are they?

  5. 4 assists being the 92nd percentile for wingers is a bit sad to be honest. Also Garnacho being much higher than Ndiaye for dribbles completed is surely not true. Ndiaye is a much better dribbler and has more successful take ons p90.

  6. This is why stats are important, because they can demonstrate that numbers aren’t everything in football.

This guy is fine for depth. He hasn’t been great but presumably he will continue to improve because he’s only 21. It’s not like the rest of the squad has been that great either. He could be a really good backup for us if he’s willing to accept that role.

  8. I think he’s really good at absolutely everything except for beating his man, and shooting. Two of the most important things needed for a winger. lol

I still believe he can be useful but as a sub. He is a threat in the box but elsewhere not much. especially not on the touch line where he spends majority of the time.

  10. Absolutely fed up with stat merchants trying to tell me Garnacho is decent. The only stats that matter are points and Garnacho hasn’t contributed to them lately.

Exhibit A of how eye test is important. Also an example of how purely data-driven approach doesn’t work

He is not good enough but I feel like he’d be less of a talking point if our attack was functioning correctly across the board. He’s a support player at best and not someone who can create everything or be the game changer on his own and unfortunately this is in that department that we’re lacking the most currently

  13. We watch him with our eyes. He’s fucking awful an undoubtedly one of the worst wingers and dribblers in the league.

What’s with this sub and doing Garnachos PR every week. He’s a horrible player.

Garnacho has the talent but do us chelsea fans have patience to deal with his antics and wait for him to develop currently no. The stats doku has for city this season same stat for chelsea player will bashed by fans and pundits but for city he is a team of the year contender

  15. I think garnacho is a fine backup but all we did here was compare him to other players who are also massively overrated by this fanbase. Morgan Rogers will be at Chelsea next summer because of Joe shields, cost us 100mil and be the biggest flop of them all. Absolute nothing player

  16. I think he has world class potential truly but he needs help… we need a manager badly to get these young guys to their potential.

I rate Garnacho more than most here, but the players chosen for this comparison are a bit strange. Garnacho is the only pure LW out of those 4, and they all play different roles in different systems. Gordon is really the only one I think can be justified here.

I think a better comparison would be against players who have been on the left flank for 90% of the season and are typically considered pure LW like Mitoma, Doku, CHO, Gakpo, etc. It would be a more trustworthy comparison and would provide deeper insights.

The difference between being deployed on the left flank vs the right is significant in the modern era. Additionally, playing centrally like we have seen with Rogers (and Gordon to a degree) drastically changes a variety of stats measured here (and other underlying stats too, such as take-ons, shots-per-game, key passes, etc).

Which is why showing stats is meaningless, especially when cherry picked. A possession heavy attacking minded side will have more dribble attempts, likely more passes, more crosses etc. Like duh.
