Eduardo Camavinga’s future at Real Madrid has been cast into doubt in recent weeks amid links to Liverpool.

The Frenchman has been on Los Blancos’ books since 2021, when he joined for £27m. But reports last week suggested Real Madrid and the player could be open to an exit in the 2026 summer transfer window.

This was good news for Liverpool, who are thought to have been keen on Camavinga for a while.

However, Fabrizio Romano has dropped a new update on the midfielder, saying he really wants to remain with his current club.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…

Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast this week, he said: “I have had many questions on this, but what I can guarantee is that Camavinga wants to do everything possible in order to stay at Real Madrid, fight for his place and continue his Real Madrid career.

“Camavinga is not pushing to leave Real Madrid. It’s been a complicated season for Camavinga, also unlucky in some moments.

“That red card in Munich is obviously an unlucky moment and we know that. But Camavinga still wants to fight to be part of Real Madrid’s long-term plans. Camavinga is not giving up.”

“He doesn’t want to go. Then obviously for Real Madrid, in case there is a big proposal from a very top club, and that’s also good proposal for the player, Real Madrid are not closing the doors to an exit for Camavinga in the summer. But it doesn’t mean that it’s over between Camavinga and Real Madrid, because the player at the moment is still hoping to continue at the club.”

Liverpool alternative to Eduardo Camavinga

It remains to be seen what will happen with Camavinga, while Liverpool could now look at alternative options.

Talk of Adam Wharton moving to Anfield in an £80m deal from Crystal Palace has emerged in April.

Wharton has been of interest to the Reds for a while now, as David Lynch revealed recently.

He said: “We’ve spoken about it for a while, interest from Liverpool, 100 per cent, and that’s going back to the Blackburn days.

“I personally don’t have any information that they’re definitely going to go for him, but it just wouldn’t be a surprise at all. I’ve known of the interest for a long time.

“One little interesting titbit about this, which I think went under the radar, I just thought it was interesting that Liverpool signed Will Wright last summer. It just seemed very out of nowhere.”

Wharton has made 44 appearances for Crystal Palace in 2025/26, in which he has provided seven assists.
